Subject: Why do people exaggerate so much?

Not difficult on lower levels, but on higher levels people have trajectories, map routes, and teamwork down to a science. And since there are so few people left, you inevitably play with people who have mastered the game. I stopped playing when I was thrown into a third match with a level 50 player from whom I had actually attempted to learn.

So it is like a lot of other games out there. That doesn't mean it has a steep learning curve since that typically talks about the initial playing of the game. If anything it just means it has a large skill gap/range.

It does though. It takes learning map topography to know the best routes to gain and maintain speed. It takes practicing with weapons to learn how they are affected by momentum and how long it takes them to travel, not to mention the practice needed to master them. It takes practice to find the most efficient means and locations of nitron jumping.

That's not to say that there isn't a large skill gap. There is. But these are strategies that even low level players have to learn to stand a chance.

I'm mocking Cpt Needa for his believe that the low population of Tribes is due to the prevalence of "Cod Kids" who cant adjust.

I am not denying there is some level of strategy or skill needed later on in the game at higher levels. Though personally at lower levels the game was easy and uninteresting. As for knowing strategies at lower levels not really you just need to understand basic concepts of the game which are common in almost all other shooters out there. Strategic/Skill focused high level play isn't really anything new. Take Halo 2 or 3 for example both of those with more skilled players took a lot of strategy and skill. Even then I wouldn't say it has a steep learning curve. In order to really say that the game must be brutally difficult from the start which very few games are. Most follow norms especially nowadays.

I think you and I had very different experiences in Tribes. Hell, maybe I was the outlier.

Unless the game changed drastically in 2 months then I don't see what is so hard about it. The only thing that is different is you move faster using hills which isn't a hard concept to grasp. I can maybe see moving fast as messing up people, but in those cases I just think of those people as not playing enough shooters if something as trivial as that is an issue. Strategy is really the same as every other game since pretty much all gametypes are far from original. The only reason I could see it being hard would be regarding the whole F2P/Pay-to-win thing, but even then there are plenty of games like CoD that give beginners a disadvantage which in the end is still not much of an issue.

You're oversimplifying it though. There are lots of small details that make or break the final result of any of those actions.

I know I am oversimplifying it, but details only matter more so in higher skill matches not near the beginning. As I said before similar concepts apply to Halo 2 and 3. Both were fairly easy at low level play, but later on it took a lot of skill and strategy to even have a chance of winning. This kind of concept applies to a lot of other games Tribes Ascend isn't anything special. If anything it actually makes skills less important due to the pay-to-win aspect is there along with how you have different classes with weaknesses and bonuses verse other classes. In the end that actually helps decrease the skill gap which is common in a lot of new games over the years to help draw in the newer players.

I never really noticed any weapons that were blatantly pay2win (outside of pre-nerf plasma launcher).

I don't know as we have anything more to discuss though, honestly. We had different experiences, but I'm inclined to give you the benefit of the doubt. No reason to believe I'm so special.

Yup.

I didn't like Halo:Reach that much, and thought it had no campaign really, and didn't like Halo 4's campaign either, but I wouldn't call these things anything other than bad. Those other words are extreme descriptions.
