Which Dumbledore played a better character? While I really liked how Richard Harris played Dumbledore, I couldn't really see him playing the later Harry Potter films, where it got much more intense. That's where I think Michael Gambon played very well too.

Overall, I'd have to say Harris takes the crown. He played more of a trusting, loyal Dumbledore. But kudos to Gambon too.

And from FOX, two phantoms were born.

Does Richard Harris have a corner on Top Gear named after him?

I preferred Richard Harris as Dumbledore, he really suited the role and had a magical charm to it. However Michael Gambon was more suitable for the later films, I don't think Richard would've been physically able to perform if he were still alive.

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

Gamon

Although Harris was only in the first two, which didn't really involve Dumbledore quite so much as the later ones, so IMO, it's two different roles played by two different actors.

My troll sense is tingling.

While Harris was pretty memorable and tragically played little of the character, I prefer Gambon. He had a much wider range and was more believable.

Harris played a Dumbledore that actually struck me as a wise, intelligent man with years of experience under his hand, just as I imagined him in the books. Gambian purposely tried to be different from the original Dumbledore and I didn't like him.

Agreed. I haven't read any of the books in years but I don't see how Harris could fit the role from Order of the Phoenix, onward.

Hanger one I just shredded with the SMGs until ammo was out and I just threw 'nades like a boss while BRing.

My experience playing Cairo Station on Legendary

Michael, he seemed much more connected to the story while Richard's portrayal felt more grandfatherly as opposed to headmastery.

Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari?

Richard Harris will always be Dumbledore to me. His portrayal truly embodied the book's description of the character, and to this day when I read the books, I still see him as Dumbledore in my mind.

And he still could have done the more action packed scenes in the later movies with the help of stunt doubles and digital technology.

Richard Harris, but Michael Gambon is brilliant too, really. I think Richard Harris, but Michael Gambon still played it well, too, I just prefer Richard Harris...

The Black Chapter

Can't hate Gambon

Harris looked like he was going to die any time, and really a superwizard really shouldn't be looking like they're one Werthers Original away from death.

"Living to smile, and not to succeed; smiling to inspire happiness, not to give the illusion you are happy; creativity and music to inspire smiling, which in turn inspires happiness; being nice to be happy, not for being perceived a good person."

Richard Harris' only real contribution was that of a more wise and Grandfather figure to Harry.

Everything else honestly has to go to Gambon.

"There's this theory that if there were an infinite number of monkeys pecking away at typewriters, they would eventually write the great works of Shakespeare, but thanks to the internet we now know that's not true."-Adam Savage

I think they both did really well, but Gambon probably wins. Harris had the old wizard feel down, but as the series progressed, I feel like Gambon was able to provide the energy of Dumbledore that I got from the books.
