Subject: Should you really be considered an adult at age 18?

Country: United States.
State: Pennsylvania.
County: Warren.
I graduated from high school on June-11-2011. I'm 19 right now. I'm turning 20 in December. I like playing video games, and board games. I like reading Sci-Fi, and World War II novels, and what not.

"There is nothing better in the world than being better at a video game than someone else....oh wait"

To me it should be 20. Because at 18 and 19 you're still a teenager. 20 is the age you move out of the teens.

Congratulations. You're literate!

It is a bit foolish to think that the "Maturity Fairy" arrives on the night of everyone's 18th birthday and magically bestows them with adulthood.

*shrug* what are you going to do? Require a license and make people take an exam?
I was taught that the Maturity Fairy is kind of like the Tooth Fairy, except the former collects used feminine hygiene products from teenage girls instead of baby teeth from young children.

Honestly some people really shouldn't be as they are not ready to make adult decisions at that age. But then again you don't want to punish those who are ready to do so.

If I had to choose though I think I'd move it up to 20 or 21. By doing so though I'd assume you'd have to increase the legal age of alot of things like marriage and buying tobacco and enlisting in the military and other things like that.

That's my 2 cents. What do you think Flood?

Oh you wanna increase the age os -blam!- consent too? It's only 16 her in the UK ;) Doesn't that just make your blood boil like at low vapour pressure in the depths of deep interstellar space inside the cosmos of the universe?????

I'm 18 in six months and I cry a little inside when someone tells me I'm nearly an adult. It's not that I can't work, look after myself or act mature... it's just that it feels wrong to think of myself as one.

Maybe leaving home for university will change that.
