An update to the game made flares distract javelin missiles. I do believe it doesn't work very well, so I'll give you that.

Transport (and scout) helo's have spaces for engineers. If you ever fly with 2 mates repairing you, you're damn near impossible to kill.
You're a bad pilot if you take off in an empty transport helicopter. Even if you only take off with two gunners, they'll switch out of their gunner seat to repair you, unless they are terrible. (This is also assuming that no one spawns on you, which never happens.)
Assuming it's one Javelin, I might live. However, in most situations if it is more than one Javelin I'm dead. Considering I can't tell when, where, or how many Javelins are heading towards my Helo until they are fired which means I have to practically always be hiding behind a building or under a bridge in order to live, we're in agreement that transport flying is unbalanced and unfair on a fundamental level, right?

I should be able to look back on every death and say, "yeah I should have done that differently and I would have lived." Whenever I'm Transporting I'm praying to the Battlefield gods that no more than one person will lock me, because there is nothing I can do and still stay moderately effective like when I'm flying the attack helo.

Do you think you could fly the attack helo well without any countermeasures whatsoever? Probably not, and that is what flying Transport helos is like.
