Subject: The Incredible Growing Master Chief (Halo 4 Spoilers)

This is your last chance. Turn back if you don't want spoilers.

Just a minute ago I stumbled across a point in halopedia about Master Chief's genes being altered by the Librarian.

First, watch this and pause at 1:04. Note the height difference between Palmer and Chief. Palmer is up to Chief's faceplate, right? And Lasky is around a foot shorter, up to Chief's neck.

Now, watch this and look at how much the height difference has changed at 1:25. Chief is now two heads taller than Palmer as opposed to one.

And also, in comparison to Lasky's 5'11" stature, the scientists wouldn't have been much taller or shorter. Yet in the epilogue, the scientists are just a bit above his waist, whereas Tillson was up around his chest.

Halopedia states that this change only occured after the Librarian altered the Chief's DNA, but I want to know what you think. Is it something interesting about the Chief, and that will be explained further? Or is it just a difference between in-engine and CGI cinematics?

I think this growth could link into the issue revolving around the Chief's humanity.

Discuss.

Then respond with Adapt.

The real question here is how would his armor grow with him.

That. I don't think altered DNA would increase height, or that a height difference would matter against the Didact. It was a visual mistake in the game.

I am a monument to all your sins

Palmer is still up to about the same place on chief, and when the scientists are working on him, he is elevated by the armor remover. Even if he did get taller, his armor wouldn't grow with him. I don't think so OP.

Edit, actually, yeah chief does look bigger, but I think that's probably just a mistake by 343i, and not canon.

This.

Just differences with in-engine and CGI.

This was when he was walking to the armour remover...

There is also that issue about the armour growing with him, but it's a little strange that he would have increased in height without explanation.

I do not want to stop asking. I do not ask to stop wanting.

Master Chief felt left out from the Didact's 4 meter tall club so he heaped steroids in the time between Cortana's death and his retrieval

In-game the Spartan-IVs are probably similar sized because they wouldn't want to change the gameplay from Campaign to War Games much, if at all. Plus the Librarian does change Chief's DNA, as you said. I wouldn't be surprised if it made him taller.

The armor adapts to the height...

His bodysuit could, maybe, but his armor plates couldn't. They'd crush him.

Plus I recall seeing the scientists that operate the armor machine going up to about the same height as Palmer's head: to Chief's shoulder plates. So unless everyone on Infinity is Spartan height, I think it's an oversight.

I like the idea though, I just don't see any reason why it's not a mistake.

It can't be a mistake, they emphasize his height too much to not be noticable and even Palmer gives him a WTF? look.

The Librarian probably used some Forerunner tech to increase its size.

A real test of a man is if he is willing to scrape a sharpened razor up and down his junk just to please a woman.

I'm more so wondering how 343 managed to make an already average story absolutely awful by basically adding midichlorians through the "you were chosen/made through thousands of years of genetic manipulation" aspect of the story.

Seriously, whoever though that was a good idea, -blam!- off. He was chosen by Cortana through luck, not -blam!- fate.

He was chosen by fate, and got Cortana with him by luck, included by fate.

Midi-chlorians were awful because they tried to scientifically explain the spiritual, ruining our perceptions of the Force. This is not the case, and actually works given the confines of the story. Bungie were the ones that started the whole destiny thing, 343 merely expanded upon it.

What you're basically saying is that luck (also known as plot armor) is prefferable to destiny/fate. At least one of those adds to the backstory. The other is just laziness.

Only Forerunner armor could change with its user. So unless she turned MJOLNIR into a combat skin, she couldn't have done that.
