We saw in the trailer that the visor is very reflective, almost as much as a miror, but in the Making-of video, we see some new video clips and the visor is not as reflective as in the trailer. It's just orange and we can barely see what is reflected.

Here's a comparison image I made : LINK

I hope the real one is the trailer version, and that the making-of one is just a version of the visor to preview the trailer while making it without taking all PC's ressources. Since their PC is probably not as powerful as a 360 it's probable, but on another hand wouldn't they prefer to show Halo 3 at it's best? I also noticed that the bump mapping scratches are more visible in the Trailer version, but maybe it's just because of the lighting.

Which one do you think will be in the game?

There certainly is a noticeable difference in the two.

Its very well possible that either Bungie applied some suble post-rendering effects onto the Chief's visor especially for the teaser trailer, but its also possible that the up-close pivot shots that were taken for the documentary video weren't actually running in the game engine with all of the realtime specular effects at work, but rather in some 3d modeling app or something.

The reflection reminds me of Buial Mounds. Good find though.

Facts are the enemy of tru7h....

Well they did say the trailer was running in engine. But of course that's before all the AI and Physics stuff is put in.

I guess they could have been using a lo-ploy / reduced version in the making of...

I suspect it won't look quite as good as it did in the trailer... but it'll still look awesome..

Actually the making-of image was taken from a render in the Halo 3 Press Kit and not in the making-of video itself, but we can see the masterchief having the same position in the making-of video at 2:18. I can understand that maybe the making-of didn't use the actual Halo 3 engine but why are the Press kit renders (made separatly from the making-of) having that visor? The other popular masterchief render from the press kit is the one with him walking with his AR on his shoulder (you can see it in the wallpaper section).

The makers stressed that this was what the game would like while playing, the graphics would be this intense and they would push it as far as they could

Those without swords can still die upon them.

I don't think there's necessarily a difference. He's looking at the bright object in the first shot, and looking at orange sand/rock in the second one.

I also don't think Bungie would have called all that attention to the "real-time reflection" if it wasn't actually real.

So why aren't you sure it's a rock we see in the second one? Because it's blurry. And also we can't distinguish the colors on the making-of one. The sky is orange, the ground is orange, everything is orange! And nothing is clear, you can't say what is the reflection, all we see is the ground. Is the black thing a piece of metal? a rock? a far building? We can't say. Is the sky clear? cloudy? having lightnings? We can't say. In the trailer image is obvious that it's the ark and we see every little details of it, we see the cloudy sky, and we clearly see a covenant ship.
