I can't help but think of this
Watched that again today after rewatching the extended edition of Return of the King earlier. Such a great video, as are all of Pistolshrimp's videos.

They suck. I watched 30 mins of the first one and couldn't watch anymore. Horrible story, awful acting, no character development, and the premise was just plain dumb.
>first 30 minutes

you didn't even get out of the shire? haaa.

>"Horrible story"
Wins Oscar for Best Screenplay, the novels considered some of the best of all time.

>"Awful acting"
Ian Mckellan nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars, Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, and Sean Astin highly praised for their performances.

>No character development
Didn't even get to the introductions of Aragorn, Legolas, Gimili, Boromir, Gollum, Galadriel, Arwen, Eomer, Faramir, or Eowyn.

>"The premise was plain"
Only watched 30 mins out of a potential 10 hours of the trilogy, complains about it.

He be trolling. >:(

I can't wait to read the rest of the books and see how they differ from the movies.

I don't understand why so many of you think they are the "best movies ever made."

Sure, they are pretty good movies. But best ever? Somehow I don't see them being considered that. I mean, The Godfather, sure. Even Gone With the Wind, or similar.

But a CGI driven fantasy/action movie?

Whatever, each to their own. But there is a reason why you guys find it so hard to get a date.

Probably my favorite trilogy of all time with Star Wars in close second.

lol

Also I don't really see how LOTR can be described as "CGI-dependent". Each movie looks really good, regardless.

They are CGI dependent because they are. Most of what you see was developed in a computer. I should hope they are visually pleasing, it took them a lot of work to program them that way...

I don't think they are the best films ever, but collectively as a trilogy it is a cinematic achievement. There aren't many other film trilogies that have consistently good films throughout, though some (such as The Dark Knight Trilogy and the Original Star Wars Trilogy) come pretty close.

I can agree with that, though me being a gen X'er means I have to disagree with placing the LOTR trilogy over the Star Wars original.

Of the action/fantasy genre, sure they are (depending on the generation) either the 1st or second best made. Over every movie? Not so much.

It's a great Trilogy. I only ever read the Hobbit, but i'd like to read the Trilogy soon. I'm also hoping to watch all three again before the Hobbit hits theaters.

Your bravado is showing.

Really though, both of those movies you mentioned are fantasies. The Godfather is an over the top Mafia fantasy and Gone with the Wind is a Romantic fantasy. Just because something features Elves and Dwarves should not immediately disqualify it from "best" anything.

That said I love the movies to death but I have to say that as FILMS they are very straight forward. Very rarely are non conventional techniques used in regards to camera work/lighting/etc. This lack of "artsy" elements doesn't take away from the final product though, as the music/story/characters/performances all more than make up for it.

Finally I want to say that you ending your post with the cliche "You can't get a date" is bad form. I thought you better than to resort to school yard put downs.

edit: People who are tanking TDK Trilogy up there with LotR, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones need to stop it. Batman Begins was okay, The Dark Knight was great, and TDKR was mediocre as all get out.

Tried watching one - Passed the hell out

This will serve as my judgement for those movies until I can purchase enough amphetamines to actually watch them.

I watched Fellowship of the Ring for the first time a while ago.

Thought it was almost as long as it was boring (extended version).

I still don't understand how they can make a three part movie out of The Hobbit.
