13.72 billion years in the making.
On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.
Yep, it happened. Earlier today, my dad called me and told me that him and I were going down to Connecticut to tour an observatory. It sounded fun, so, of course, I said yes. He said that we would meet an old college friend of his who works at the Hartford University, and he'd show us the equipment and what goes on in their facilities.
Well, long story short. There wasn't an observatory, nor was there an old college buddy. For weeks, my family has planned on having me attend Vision and Brilliance, which was to be held at the Bushnell Theater in Hartford. Not only that, but they'd paid top-dollar to have me taken backstage to meet the guest speakers; Neri Oxman, Neil Gaiman, and Neil deGrasse Tyson, who, as a lot of people here know, is my idol.
It was kept secret from me until I actually saw him backstage. Nearly dropped unconscious right there, but I managed to keep myself standing. He came and greeted us soon afterwards, and we all took pictures with him. Unfortunately, the pictures won't be mailed to us for a while, so the best I can do is give you guys pictures taken throughout the night (Sorry, the pictures are ginormous):
This was taken backstage, soon after I got a picture with him:

Also taken after talk:
The talk itself was absolutely phenomenal. Basically just broad discussion of what brilliance is defined as, and the ways that the speakers had made their journey to their current status, and what thoughts go through their head as a result. They covered a ton of other topics, but that's the basic gist. It'll be up on Youtube eventually and, when it is, I'll post it in this thread.
EDIT: When the picture of me and him comes in, I'll post it here.
