One mystery of the universe is how it will end.

The galaxies that make up the universe are traveling away from each other, and the further they get the faster they travel.

The galaxies are accelerating and accelerating as we speak, and they are accelerating exponentially.

Ignore my gamertag. It's actually Dragonzzilla.

You dare bring Science and Opinions in my Lair?

well they can't keep accelerating forever. they are capped by the speed of light, so WTF will happen to the galaxies as they approach the speed of light?

The Big Rip. Some scientists prefer the Big Crunch though.

Talking about Sweden is an ultrabannable offense.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

Eventually the force of drifting apart will overcome gravity (apart from black holes) and everything will become clouds of atoms.

I'm not mean. I don't troll. I like The Flood.
~08/08/2000~ I'm 11 right now. Please don't let this convey an immature image of me.

I will save the universe.

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”

2 Interesting facts.

In 5 Billion years the rate of Galaxies moving apart from each other will reach a point at which most Galaxies will be out of view of each other. So if any future civilization is ever created they will never know of other Galaxies.

Also, in roughly 1,000,000,000,000 Years (1 Trillion), the Galaxy will have run out the Hydrogen, as a result star creation will halt. And the remaining stars will begin trickling out of existence.

Bungie doesn't like French on their site.

I think at one point it'll collapse on it's self. Until the universe is but a little bit bigger then an atom. And then it'll explode and create another big band. I forgot what this theory it's called, but it's mind blowing.

Or the new one The Big Freeze.

The Big Crunch
Yeah, if it's true, it will be almost inconceivable how many big bangs happened before ours.

the math adds up very nicely in this description. all debts are paid.

gravity has an infinite range, therefore as the galaxies expand exponentially they will collapse upon themselves exponentially. Meaning, when the universe begins to retract, the diameter of the universe will shrink slowly, than collapse faster as it grows more... dense

Except most physicists think that won't ever happen and the universe will continue to expand forever and eventually undergo heat death.

if the universe expands forever how does a big bang happen in the first place?

it would suggest there is time before a big bang, and the math becomes complicated.
