Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials).

Basically, the OS developer has a decent motivation (and resources) to make sure that their platform remains as secure and stable as possible.

Though the other free offerings are also well-respected and have (for most of them) very good reputations.
