Spartan Ops is only good for its story and cutscenes. Halo: Reach Firefight just... I dunno, it wasn't as good. Maybe because it felt more like a battle than a defense. ODST was awesome. If ODST had MM, we'd be golden.

Spartan Ops is becoming more like Firefight every week, just it has buttons. It is getting pretty boring.

ODST Firefight is the best of the 3.

Yeah, ODST's firefight was gold if you had other people. The other two choices are less than satisfactory....

ODST FF does come pretty close to my vote though.

Spartan Ops has a story, character interaction/development, and is trying to be different and better. That over FF any day.

I swear to DRUNK, I'm not GOD!

EITHER Firefight is better than Spartan Ops.
- Lets you play offline
- Doesn't require an XBL Gold account
- Gameplay has tension because there are consequences for dying
- No stupid button pushing
- No complete failure to shoehorn a plot into every map
- Takes skill

Spartan Ops SUCKS!

lolno you are wrong
Spartan Ops's CUTSCENES have the things you've described. The gameplay, however, has none of those elements and is just a repetitive "kill everything, push the button" cycle that goes for every mission.

Except for replay value or customization as seen in Reach.

ODST Firefight got my vote though. It was just done right. "Defend this position while trying to stay alive." Hell yes.

Thank you Emo Joe.

They're all the same thing, it's just that spartan ops apparently has a story to it.

SO > FF ODST > FF Reach

or FF ODST > SO > FF Reach. It's good either way

Or, y'know, it's just how I view things and my opinion on the given subject. Besides, I never said it was the game-play. I, overall, enjoy Spartan Ops more over than I do/did FF.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

ODST's Firefight was so close to being 'perfect'. All it needed was less laggy games, matchmaking and a few other tedious issues that warranted sorting out. I don't believe that Firefight needed the level of customisation it had in Reach, I'd say that ruins the point of the mode - you're meant to be limited in your options to provide a challenge and encourage teamwork, not fly around with Jetpacks, bottomless clip rockets and infinite lives.

Spartan Ops is improving, but because it's so experimental right now it's extremely meh. There's so little replay value, no difficulty scaling according to player numbers (solo Legendary is often a nightmare), repetitive missions with little variety (no Banshee or space missions is disappointing right now, too many missions revolving around saving "eggheads"), and overall Halo 4's AI is pretty dull. That said, the story in the cutscenes is fantastic.

To sum it up:

ODST FF > Spartan Ops > Reach FF

Don't get why every one is saying Spartan ops is repetitive with "kill this, press this, kill this, press this"

Look at firefight, "kill this" That's the only thing you do on the exact same maps, same spawns, seems even more repetitive to me. At least with Spartan ops you have different maps/objectives and isn't the exact same thing over and over.

That being said I think Reach's FF was the best, wasn't to competitive and just a break from the normal MM when you just wanna have fun and kill tons of enemies at a time.

  • 12.02.2012 8:41 AM PDT

Fear my Pink Mist...

ODST's FF actually felt like survival, without customization loadouts and scavenging for ammo and weapons.

Oh and Lost Platoon needs a remake. I LOVED THAT MAP.

A very valid point. But the bigger difference between Firefight and Spartan Ops is Firefight far more often than not incorporated a penalty for dying. You could actually "loose" a game of firefight, but Spartan Ops provides no penalty for dying: you just respawn and jump back in to the button-pushing enemy-killing meat-grinder. As a result, the only real customization you have for each SO mission, the difficulty, is relatively pointless, because there's absolutely no penalty for death. At least in Campaign they reset you to a previous checkpoint and you can turn skulls on.
That being said I think Reach's FF was the best, wasn't to competitive and just a break from the normal MM when you just wanna have fun and kill tons of enemies at a time. And in many ways, I'll concede that SO does satisfy this need. I've quite enjoyed some sessions of Spartan Ops where I was killing tons of dudes while chatting with other people online. There's something relaxing about killing wave after wave after wave of AI badguys with no consequences.
But Spartan Ops could be so much better. They can start with some missions that you can actually fail for not meeting certain requirements... hell, at least give us a time limit to push some of the buttons. And some unique locations that aren't recycled from the campaign or matchmaking maps would be nice. Maybe even some custom maps made in Forge mode?

Hey, uh, if you like vs threads, then check out this little group right here, if you have the time. It's pretty fun, just hop right in.

ODST's FireFight was the -blam!-. Reach's version was more a shooting gallery than a fight for survival, and I've only seen walkthroughs of Spops.
