you were stuck with certain wepons, limited ammo, and only more ammo on two guns, you had to conserve, instead of just shotgunning everyone and getting more ammo, and yes you could up the level, and that would make it a bit funner, but at max level and super hard enemies it was almost impossible.
odst, you had to think more.

"It wasn't hard enough, but when I put the difficulty up, it was too hard."

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

The ODST mindset was "survival". The Reach mindset was "commendations".

It just felt better. You felt like it was an actual survival game. Yes, I made an ODST style gametype in Reach, but it didn't feel the same.

Then you didn't make it hard enough.

Yes, I did.

Because they are stupid. "omg it's not as challenging". Well make it more challenging then.
Increasing an enemies health doesn't make a game more challenging. It just makes it more tedious.

The only thing I really liked from ODST's Firefight that was missing in Reach.

You can do all of that in Reach.

The gameplay is very different, the weapons are different, the enemy abilities are different, the maps are different (and better), and in ODST it was about defending an area. In Reach is was about just fighting all the guys that come out. None of this are things you can fix simply by changing settings. So you'll get stupid people going 'oh it is because the settings are different' but... meh. Those people don't understand.

Because some people preferred ODST's maps, and ODST's gameplay is crisper?

I loved playing as an ODST. I loved the two suppressed weapons also.

  • 12.02.2012 10:14 AM PDT

You look around. You fire your weapon before you realize.
Its just me. I fall and you walk up. You cry why.
When i pop up. You look at me in wonder. I say,"ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL."
You bend to my will and go to a cliff, walk off, and fall.
The last thing you hear is me stating as fact,"All will fail the battle of life, you just went early"

The game play in ODST wasn't the same as in Reach.

You can mess with the settings all you want, but you just can't replicate the ODST experience.

I didn't like either it was copy and paste form -blam!-s of war.

What if I told you...

I hate you

-Reach had terrible AIs.
-ODST had better firefight maps.
-Bloom sucks.
-Choppers.
-Challenging. Yes, one could make Reach's challenging, but they can't make it challenging and fun.

The problem was more the set-up wasn't really orieted towards Survival anymore.

Then why couldn't you just change the settings to make it that way?

Mainly because you can't. Even on the highest difficulty, it doesn't feel like a survival mode, it's just a shooting gallery with enemies that happen to soak up bullets like a -blam!-ing sponge.

You can do all of that in Reach.

but by adding the option to make is super easy it gets rid of the hardness. Thats why people don't want an option to make dark souls easier, it just cheapens it.

#rubberdingirapids

The AI's in Reach would just charge at you and spray and a large amount of the maps were bad.

iPhone 4S 64GB Black.

Because Reach's maps were RUBBISH! ODST's were amazing. Especially 'Lost Platoon'. My friends and I could go on playing that for hours some days. It was more varied, and was much more challenging. My favourite thing about it was that there was little customisation.

  • 12.02.2012 10:24 AM PDT

ODST firefight was more of a challenge but i totally agree that th reach firefight was not terrible. I did however prefer ODST.

Infection in Halo 3 isn't zombie killing; it's ethnic cleansing. Have you ever noticed that these "zombies" are just black Spartans?

I'm all about the immersion and role-playing. Suiting up as a Spartan makes me feel invulnerable - in the games, Spartans are portrayed as unstoppable super-soldiers capable of cutting a path through a rampaging horde of Covie bad guys like a hot plasma sword through butter. That works great in the story-driven campaign but in a pure combat scenario it sucks all the fun out of the experience. All those years of multiplayer has soured the experience too by associating Spartans with expendable soldiers who always respawn when they die - there's no risk factor.

Not true for ODSTs. They're vulnerable - I've spent years protecting them, kitting them out with the best weapons and vehicles to get them through campaign missions and been heartbroken when they've been killed by fuel rod cannon-wielding grunts whilst I was distracted. The ODST campaign doesn't break the illusion - the Rookie skulks through the night streets avoiding open confrontation in favour of getting the jump on even small patrols of Covenant ground forces.

ODST Firefight is about survival. Reach Firefight is about killing stuff.

Also, I've always preferred the Halo 3 engine's visual style over Reach's.

Well, not terrible, but they definitely don't have the killing intent of the ODST Enemies.
