You cannot recreate the ODST experience for a few key reasons.

The first, is the fact that the AI behave differently. ODST's AI are challenging in some of their tactics and numbers, and the fact that you aren't a tank. Reach's AI however, have aimbot on roids, and do primarily three things. Throw grenades in mass, melee cluster you, and snipe you with weapons you can't snipe with. The AI are also extremely predictable in their tactics.

ODST had great vehicle gameplay on some of it's maps, while Reach did not. The broken rock paper scissors vehicle combat mechanics for Reach also counted in it's firefight, pushed even farther along due to the fact the AI had damage buffs and vehicles were paper.

In ODST, all weapons had some form of usefulness. Even the lowest of the low could be picked up and used as a placeholder until you found better gear. In Reach, the only thing you could hope to fight with were power weapons. Add power weapons, the game becomes easy.

It is not possible in any way to replicate the ODST firefight due to the differences in the engines between the two games. Reach mobs you with more than you can handle and if the difficulty is turned up you quickly become overwhelmed with no way of stopping it.

You can't replicate the feeling, and you cant replicate the gameplay.

I just personally believe that Firefight is more suited to a guy that can't recharge his shields.

Stamina worked exactly like a shield.

How? Stamina had you walk all the way back to your spawn to recharge it with health packs, or survie until the round ends(or set). If you ran out of the packs in a high numbered set, then you are screwed.

The stamina system is when your screen goes redder. Eventually, after enough damage, you start losing health. They are fundamentally the same system, though I think aesthetically, the stamina system made for more intense combat.

From up here the city lights burn like a thousand miles of fire

playing as an ODST was new and fun. the firefight maps were open and you were able to move freely without feeling pinned down by swarms of enemies

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

You did not need a health pack for your stamina to recharge. The skull Black eye made you have to punch or get a health pack in order for it to recharge. It works the same way for Reach.

Oh you can fix that. All you had to do was change some of the individual waves to none.

Edit: Am I the only one who ever used the customization of firefight? Damn my love for it!

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

Better maps, no loadouts, and it had that new feel to it. I just wish that you could play over XBL.

Reach's firefight was so -blam!-, you could make yourself invincible. ODST's required skill and patience

Nostalgia may play a part, also I never had an experience like endure with Firefight 2.0

Because ODST Firefight is superior in just about everything Reach had minus customization. Better atmosphere, better maps, more challenging while still being fun. Jacking up the enemy health or making a boss round all Heretic Snipers in Reach's doesn't make it both a challenge and fun, just an annoyance.

ODST also had less health packs, 4 instead of 6, less arsenal of weapons to pick from, DMRs for example are just to good, and no infinite ammo crates. Which again, removes a lot of the challenge ODST had.

You are now reading my signature, the following proceeds as the amazing group i am in and the best person in Bungie.net who i am not stalking at al... >.>

The Reach Asset

Xhavalor is amazing <3

I loved the maps more, the weapons at your disposal. Plus Choppers on Lost Platoon.

I did try a few times to get an ODST like lobby in Reach. Everyone who wanted to play just wanted to go in Firefight matchmaking and play Arcade fight. I had a hard time trying to find people who didn't want to credit farm.

Where were you when I wanted to play Reach Firefight?!

I was playing score attack, double firefight, or customizing my own firefight experience. Man I had a fun time just facing hunters only with just a assault rifle, no ammo crates, and ordinance drops. A true test of skill. Dodging those guys were hard.

It just felt better. You felt like it was an actual survival game. Yes, I made an ODST style gametype in Reach, but it didn't feel the same.

This. Although, it wasn't about just feeling better. It was really a challenge. Reach's firefight just catered to the kids that wanted an insane amount of credits. It took the effort right out of firefight the moment you could spawn with a jetpack and an infinite fuel rod gun.

....SO THEN DON'T PLAY ARCADEFIGHT.

MAKE A CUSTOM GAMETYPE SIMILAR TO ODST. Stop using Arcadefight as a reason Halo Reach Firefight sucked.

Because it be easier to pop in ODST rather then making a whole gametype in reach.

Also in ODST you would hold and defend certain parts of the map. Wheras in Reach there aren't really any places to hold and all anyone does is run around and Jetpack.

Mainly because the AI weren't lolaimbotconcussionriflespamwallhack glitches and delivered a genuinely fun experience.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Survival is more fun compared to OP weapons with infinite respawn against grunts.

False, on Beachhead the part you would want to defend the most was the beginning where it looked like a base. Holdout was the same way except there were three positions that was a good defense part.

I could add more maps from Reach that had good defensive positions if you like.

Oh everyone is talking about FRG fight. You guys are all lame.

Avenger, it's the combination of subtle differences that when added together, make Reach feel like -blam!- compared to ODST. ODST had everything going for it and it played great as a result, everything in reach is just a little off, and while a lot can be compensated for by tweaking options, it will never be as good as ODST.

Subtle differences like? ODSTs had one type of firefight which you could play and it lost replayability fast. You are talking to someone who loved it. The game forced you to play only one way and never let you touch anything about it. In fact, playing solo which I do often, is a death sentence where in Reach you can balance it out so it doesn't become a automatic death sentence. The fact that most people in here are only talking about FRG fight makes me believe that no one even tried to touch the custom settings or tried the other gametypes they had in firefight matchmaking. Have you tried firefight versus? Generator defense? Leagues ahead of ODSTs firefight.

Ai were dumb in Halo 3 ODST. Don't even try to say they weren't. It was basically the same ai as Halo 3's. The only reason they threw grenades constantly was because of the skull. You guys just like to join the Reach hate train even though Reach did things better.

Fairness is only possible within the limited powers of man. Elsewhere, there is only chance.

Thus I refute thee.

Too many fuel rod grunts. You cannot store vehicles.

The level design, the atmosphere, the weapons, the mechanics, the overall aesthetics just worked and no amount of tweaking can compare to that. It's the reason why COD always best it clones, you can't beat the original by trying to be the original; Reach will never be better than ODST if it tries to be ODST, and if it tries to be different, well, then you're stuck with FRG fight.

Yeah I agree Reach had good maps with defensive posistions but EVERY map in ODST had a defensive spot to be in.
