Yeah I agree Reach had good maps with defensive posistions but EVERY map in ODST had a defensive spot to be in.

Same with Reach... I don't think you ever tried just once play a survival mode type firefight with your friends in Reach. I feel like I am the only one in the community that even tweaked anything, and gave it a chance.

Yes I did multiple times. But instead of taking my time to make duplicates of ODST you know what i did? I played ODST! You keep saying to make an ODST type gametype in Reach if we thought ODST was good, but I don't think you ever thought that it is easier to just play ODST.

Major props to my hommie Sheeef. He made Recon possible for me. Long time recovering emails and passwords. And it was his. lol.

ODST was fun. Why? You weren't an over powered humanoid/Spartan that could bash through everything.

ODST made things interesting and challenging. New perspective which I think is great. There should be another ODST game made, BUT NOT BY 343i.

ODST Firefight was meant to be played with friends for a good time. Better enemies, high scores, skulls, achievements, ammo and medkit sharing, and better atmosphere and maps made ODST much better.

Reach firefight was 1 step in the right direction, 2 steps in the wrong direction.
Matchmaking was a right step, along with customization, but maps were very meh, and easily farmable, along with the sense that it did not matter if you lived or died.

Avenger, it's the combination of subtle differences that when added together, make Reach feel like -blam!- compared to ODST. ODST had everything going for it and it played great as a result, everything in reach is just a little off, and while a lot can be compensated for by tweaking options, it will never be as good as ODST.

Subtle differences like? ODSTs had one type of firefight which you could play and it lost replayability fast. You are talking to someone who loved it. The game forced you to play only one way and never let you touch anything about it. In fact, playing solo which I do often, is a death sentence where in Reach you can balance it out so it doesn't become a automatic death sentence. The fact that most people in here are only talking about FRG fight makes me believe that no one even tried to touch the custom settings or tried the other gametypes they had in firefight matchmaking. Have you tried firefight versus? Generator defense? Leagues ahead of ODSTs firefight.

Ai were dumb in Halo 3 ODST. Don't even try to say they weren't. It was basically the same ai as Halo 3's. The only reason they threw grenades constantly was because of the skull. You guys just like to join the Reach hate train even though Reach did things better.
The level design, the atmosphere, the weapons, the mechanics, the overall aesthetics just worked and no amount of tweaking can compare to that. It's the reason why COD always best it clones, you can't beat the original by trying to be the original; Reach will never be better than ODST if it tries to be ODST, and if it tries to be different, well, then you're stuck with FRG fight.

You were getting good until that last part. The whole point of Reach's firefight was to customize it to your heart's content, which most games don't even do. There is a reason I played more Reach firefight than ODSTs I thought it did better in every regard you said. Reach campaign helped with firefight feeling like you had to defend Reach until your last dying breath. The atmosphere felt the same as ODSTs, the weapons are different, the mechanics were different, and yes the aesthetics were different. For me, I thought weapons was better in Reach. In fact one of my main gripes with ODST was the lack of BR or a precision shot weapon that resemble the BR. Where is the assault rifle in the firefight? That also was one of my favorite weapons. There was a scoped magnum in Reach, too. Scoped SMG was the only thing I missed which I could play with it through campaign. Even then the subtle differences can not shoot down what Reach's firefight has to offer. One of my main gripes with other firefight modes(Gears of War 3) is that you can't customize it and you have to play what everyone else is playing. The gamemode just becomes shallow after 30 matches. Which I can put in Reach right now and feel like I am getting a different, new experience in the firefight mode. If you reply to this with anymore saying something about how the game was basically FRG fight, my respect for you will nullify. If you think for one second, one second that being able to customize the way you play a game mode when you are playing offline or online in your own game is worse than something that doesn't support it, you sir are just silly.

I'm not sure, I just liked the feel of odst's gameplay...

I felt more backed up against a wall so to speak (plus I liked the maps/atmosphere better)

And while I thought armor abilities would improve firefight I found they made them less fun for me.

ODST - balanced, seemed like it would never end (this uncertainty made it terrifying), awesome weapons

Reach - fuel rod spam, Heretics. Terrible pacing.

Halo 4 - Horribly unbalanced. Fuel rod spam from enemies, Hunter spam, Banshee spam, Battlewagon spam. I was glad when the enemies stopped coming. It's a grind fest.

I'm guessing you've never engineered battles in any of the Halo campaigns...

Spartan Ops is 100% mediocre compared to CE's glorious, brilliant megabattles. You don't get this customization with SO.

Hell, Spartan Ops is even worse than the artificial battles produced in Halo 2 and 3. Ever fought 33 Grunts on a bridge while being spammed by dozens of grenades? Or 20+ Heretics raining down on you while defending a small lobby? You could even get an army of enemy Banshees on The Arbiter if you worked carefully. Or ambushing 20 Brutes with the assistance of 21 friendly AI with carbines, fuel rod guns, and a spartan laser?

Lastly, see my sig. 60 Councilor Elites, Rtas Vadum, 4 Hunters, 3 marines vs. Tartarus. This battle engineering surpasses anything Halo 4 has to offer.

8 sniper Elites in a wide open field... for a bunch of crates containing weapons that already exist on the level? LMFAO 343 you suck!

I'm all about the immersion and role-playing. Suiting up as a Spartan makes me feel invulnerable - in the games, Spartans are portrayed as unstoppable super-soldiers capable of cutting a path through a rampaging horde of Covie bad guys like a hot plasma sword through butter. That works great in the story-driven campaign but in a pure combat scenario it sucks all the fun out of the experience. All those years of multiplayer has soured the experience too by associating Spartans with expendable soldiers who always respawn when they die - there's no risk factor.

Not true for ODSTs. They're vulnerable - I've spent years protecting them, kitting them out with the best weapons and vehicles to get them through campaign missions and been heartbroken when they've been killed by fuel rod cannon-wielding grunts whilst I was distracted. The ODST campaign doesn't break the illusion - the Rookie skulks through the night streets avoiding open confrontation in favour of getting the jump on even small patrols of Covenant ground forces.

ODST Firefight is about survival. Reach Firefight is about killing stuff.

Also, I've always preferred the Halo 3 engine's visual style over Reach's.
