Playing as an ODST was more fun and challenging, Reach just feels like a grind for everyone.

You can make it more challenging. I made my own custom mode on firefight that simulated ODSTs firefight. Hell I even wore ODST armor for that.

You know how you can save time? Instead of making a gamemode simulating ODST's firefight, you could play ODST's firefight.

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

Yeah I agree Reach had good maps with defensive posistions but EVERY map in ODST had a defensive spot to be in.

Same with Reach... I don't think you ever tried just once play a survival mode type firefight with your friends in Reach. I feel like I am the only one in the community that even tweaked anything, and gave it a chance.

Yes I did multiple times. But instead of taking my time to make duplicates of ODST you know what i did? I played ODST! You keep saying to make an ODST type gametype in Reach if we thought ODST was good, but I don't think you ever thought that it is easier to just play ODST.

I am glad I wasn't implying I made a duplicate of ODSTs firefight. I made a more survival oriented firefight than ODSTs. You can't customize ODSTs and in Reach you can. Just because I said a survival game type doesn't mean I was talking about ODSTs. It isn't a duplicate either if it is different.

I've seen a lot of retarded threads and retard people in the flood but the Op is definitely up there with the retarded meter.

Liking reach? thats just retarded. Reach was is and forever utter trash made for bad players. Halo 1, 2, 3 and ODST will always be infinity better.

Quality post. 10/10. You just changed my opinion on this game with your compelling argument, good job!

Guide to immortality : Sleep with Life

I had a pretty big time thread once.

Here's me bragging about it.

The gameplay is very different, the weapons are different, the enemy abilities are different, the maps are different (and better), and in ODST it was about defending an area. In Reach is was about just fighting all the guys that come out. None of this are things you can fix simply by changing settings. So you'll get stupid people going 'oh it is because the settings are different' but... meh. Those people don't understand.
Wow a legit post from burritosenior....

How can anyone stand Firefight in any game at all?

  • 12.22.2012 7:55 PM PDT

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

ODST's firefight was about survival. Reach's was about who could earn the most credits.

He who wishes for peace must first prepare for war.

The same reasons why I don't understand how a person can say at 3 was better than Reach.

Other than bloom, you can suit Reach's multiplayer to making it feel identical to Halo 3. I've played a match like it before.

Join The Reach Asset a group I am very proud to be a leader of.

Reach's firefight didn't give you that scared feeling when a chieftain was dropped. Mainly because the chieftain in Reach is drastically weaker. You had all these different loadouts that kind of ruined the need to get a power weapon and anyone could easily wait for a phantom to get into it's spot and grenade spam the enemies while still getting out alive.

Overall it didn't feel very team oriented like ODST.

In Reach they took the survival element out and just wanted to make it fun and goofy.

Explain how they did that.

In ODST most of the damage you could take was health damage and you only had 4 health packs to use.

You had ammo boxes that on top of being limited only refilled 2 different kinds of weapons. You actually had to conserve.

Reach firefight was great, the customization was great but you couldn't create a good survival mode.

That and Firefight had epic boss waves that terrifed you.

Dear tomorrow, Find some sensibility, Respond to emotion.
Dear Politician, Define sagacity,
All chances of survival are beginning to diminish.
Comedy is no excuse for our own blasphemies.
Mass media, Mass pessimism, Mass Denial.
My television tells me to panic, but I don't think I'll listen.
The apathetic force us to persevere, with their backwards priorities.

ODST had a simple, challenging, team-based style. Sure, you could make Reach harder, but it didn't have that "I'm puny against these scary brutes" feeling.

Same with Reach.

Same in Reach. They are called weapon drops and you had to take away the unlimited weapon box.

Reach firefight was great, the customization was great but you couldn't create a good survival mode.
Yes you could.

Put in weapon drops, limited lives, get rid of weapon cache, get rid of AA and put in DMR and assault rifle as starting weapons for everyone, make main waves grunts, jackel patrol with some elites, brute patrol, hunters depending if you want them to be main or boss. In the Boss wave make it Elite generals and Elite spec ops together. If you want it to be only a brute type firefight make the boss wave brute cheiftains with some brute patrols. Can make base player movement speed anyway you want and the shield damage resistence lowered. Makes it better if you make it generator defense makes it more like you have an objective to do something other than defending yourself. It is also better if you tone down the mobs of enemies if you are going to play by yourself. Makes it more balanced.

The LIMITED ammo boxes were not in reach, and not having the weapon cache leaves you with to little ammo.

I experimented with custom game options for Reach alot when I first got it.

Theres alot of cool stuff you can do in Reach but none of the base survival gametypes you can create are as good as ODST's and none of the good gametypes were in matchmaking.

  • 12.22.2012 11:13 PM PDT

To be honest, I have no idea. I just know that ODST felt more like a fight to survive and suited fire fight suited ODST better. You could say just change settings in Reach to make it feel like ODST, but it still isn't the same, sorry.

The Pro-Reach arguers here amuse me. It's like they're fuelled by some hatred and burning passion to convince everyone they are wrong and Reach is better. Like, seriously? -blam!- get over it you wankas... it's just personal preferences. Tools.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

ODST firefight has better atmosphere. Call me dumb all you like, i couldn't care less.

The maps in Reach suck, the AI is stupid, and i generally dislike the ability to customise the settings so much. ODST firefight was the core firefight experience, and it just worked so well. Reach changed things too much, and made it into a party game instead of survival.

The problem was more the set-up wasn't really orieted towards Survival anymore.
This. In ODST, survival was primary and points were secondary. In Reach, it was points over survival. The maps weren't as good, the gameplay wasn't as good...it just didn't feel the same.

Like I said weapon drops. You get weapons that you try to conserve like in ODST. Maybe not for the weapon you spawned with but I always pick up alien weapons in ODST because they were simply better than what you spawned with.

I experimented with custom game options for Reach alot when I first got it.
Good I am glad someone did.

I find Reach survival better. Being able to take out the weapon cache and being able to change damage resistence, base movements, jump height, enemies, having drop ship or not, what weapon you can spawn with, whether you want it to be a objective based, makes it better. In fact, making it inherently better in every regard. You can have friendly ai in the game to help you. Liking Halo 3 ODST firefight over Reach's is like liking custom games with only one custom option and hating the other game because of how many customizing things you can do.

none of the good gametypes were in matchmaking.
Which sadly there was a playlist it was called firefight limited. It went with firefight arcade but no one wants to pick it. Reasons why I stick to customs. Still ODST didn't have matchmaking so no need to bring that up.

Don't get me wrong, I do love ODSTs firefight.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

ODST was simple. Reach was complicated. ODST was somewhat unpredictable, whereas in Reach you could always get to the enemies spawn as they were spawning and wipe out half the wave in about a second.

Odst was a lot harder. I liked the challenge. The only fun Reach Firefights were custom gametypes me and my friends made to be as hard and fair as possible.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

Because ODST's Firefight had atmosphere, and it was more challenging. You couldn't just make yourself an invincible killing machine with a bottomless clip rocket launcher and infinite jetpack.

The Mythic Threads (Halo 3) (ODST) (Reach)

Firefight was awesome in both games. I liked them in different ways because the one in ODST really felt like a survival game. The achievements also made more people want to play it.

In Reach it was more like a place to practice your weapon skills and getting credits. Not once did I get together with friends to survive for as long as we could. Sure it could be arranged but I had no motivation for it. Mostly because I liked the enemies better in ODST.
