Subject: I propose an allegiance - DESTINY - The Traveler:

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

Intent:This thread is dedicated to The Traveler. Here we store all the information we can find on it and discuss what we've found.
What we've got:

Picture of The Traveler, far (concept art/proof of concept).

Dead Orbit (official logo/possible connection).

First known sighting (Halo 3: Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) ~ Misriah Solutions

"A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it's here for, but only that it's our protector." ~ Source

Bungie has confirmed to Kotaku that the document and some of the art is genuine, and is somewhat representative of the game. ~ Kotaku/Source

Questions:
How do they know it is their protector?
Is it a bit worn out, or is that just the art being indistinct?
Where does it state that the planetoid is called "The Traveler"?
What is it capable of in terms of combat, offensive/defensive?

Note: the above questions might already be solved.
Will update when new information is available.

The Allegiance:
In order to avoid confusion and make the discussion on the subject more efficient, I hope to make this a sibling to some of the other Destiny related threads. I've taken the freedom to suggest who might be willing enter this allegiance by linking some of the more proficient threads on what might be core elements of Destiny? Hope you don't mind:

The Traveler: DESTINY - The Traveler ~ Janaka
The Legged Tank: Let's have a chat about Walking Tanks ~ Hylebos
Joyeuse: The Joyeuse IP Formula ~ Cortana 5
Geography: My God, It's Full of Stars - The Destiny Map ~ SonicJohn
The Last City on Earth: Needs thread...
Enemies/Monsters/Aliens:
The Kinghts:
The Grey Hovering Orb: Needs thread?

The Leak: Whoa, what just happened? ~ SonOfTheShire

Suggestions?

The Traveler, what is its purpose, what are your theories, found something notable, or do you have an important questions to add?

As I see it, this could very well be the Mendicant Bias of the series.

All hail the Great Sphere! Dead Orbit shall rule the Last City with an iron fist in honor of the Sphere. All will bow before us and the Great One or perish.

The Traveler is our Lord Protectorate. We are here to defend the Great Sphere from those that wish harm. This is all the information we have, but it is all we need. For faith will keep us alive, and faith will bring us victory in the name of The Traveler.

Clearly New Monarchy or one of the other factions are fanatical growers of tamatoes or something, and the Great Sphere has put their patches in a seemingly perpetual state of shade...

How does it protect the Last City? Telekinetic powers, lasers, forcefield, drones... what?

It throws decadent capitalist pigs at enemies. The traveler is really Stalin.

That's a good one; what are its powers, what is it capable of?

Tag 'm and Bag 'm

I say we just nuke the hell out of it. I mean come on their is only one city left and that thing is hovering above it just like a big "Hey evil alien dudes the last humans are here." sign.

Having looked at the pictures of the Traveler for far too long, an idea began to root itself deep in my mind. As we can see from the mid distance picture portraying the Great Sphere, it looks like its interior is made up of many grey metal rings that each have the geometry of a spine. It's like a curled up skeleton within a partially cracked egg with a hexagonal surface. Wouldn't it be a marvel if they all spinned like clockwork, like a cluster of Halos intertwining?

Here, I spent the last hour drawing: Interior.

It ended up being more Gigerish than I wanted though..

How do you think it looks inside, what is inside?

Okay after reading some of the data, it looks like its a cooperative multiplayer game, that is massively multiplayer.

Multiple player playing on one server, pushing one campaign forward.

Progo, Shrew, Chryso, all are the same.

I propose that the traveler disrupts whatever the aliens use to get around, thus protecting the last city.
It is the Shield of the Earth, and we are the Sword.

I must say, that is a pretty awesome interior design.

Am I the only guy around here who just wants a surprise when picking up the game?

  • 12.07.2012 5:30 AM PST

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten
