Subject: How did you overcome your fear of public speaking?

All Retards are Retarded...

You Catch My Drift??????????

Have you overcome your fear of public speaking? How did you do it? Did you even have a fear?

I have an intense fear of public speaking. It has gotten slightly better over the years but not to make a real difference. I have the feeling that everyone is watching me, even though most people probably are not paying attention, because I know I usually don't. I also have a lack of confidence so I think that everyone is thinking "Wow he is ugly/talks like an idiot." When I am presenting I become more aware of my voice and how it sounds and it bothers me and it causes me to stumble on what I am saying.

That's pretty much it, I also get really hot and I used to shake really bad.

Anyone have any advice?

who says I have?

I just don't think about it ahead of time too much and I throw myself into the situation and improv from there. So long as I know what I'm supposed to say, it does wonders.

3. Mass Effect 2
4. Tie between Halo 3 and CoD4
5. Medal of Honor or Spec Ops: The Line

I have trouble with it off and on. Just get it over with. That's what I usually do.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

I've never been afraid of it. I've always been a "showman", ever since I was a kid.

in·dif·fer·ence
the fact or state of being indifferent; lack of care or concern and empathy demonstrated by an absence of emotional reactions.

Mine just went with time.

I don't really have a fear of public speaking. I've been told I have an amazing speaking voice, like a politician almost. I guess that's something that comes naturally to some people. Some people do have a fear of public speaking, but with practice, you can overcome the fear.

I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear.

I've never really had a huge problem with public speaking.

If it troubles you, I'd recommend acting as a way of getting over it. On the stage you have an excuse to act like an idiot and the audience knows that - it takes a lot of pressure off.

I think how I feel watching other people speak, then remember that's how the audience feels watching me. It also really helps not to rely on a script. Have one if you want, by all means, but practice until you barely need to glance at it.

I am the God Emprah of Mankind.

Deal with it.

A few tips I remind myself if I get nervous.

-Most likely nobody cares or will remember what you say.

-If they do remember, which they probably won't, what does it matter?

- You're going to need to do it, there's no way around it, so man up.

- If it's something people will remember, sound confident in what you say, then they'll feel you know what you're talking about. Even if you don't.

I never had one.

Sometime I psych myself out and it makes me really nervous, but I have never had a fear of public speaking.

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

Repeated exposure. In high school I actually joined the musical after two years of hounding from my choir teacher. Got pretty big roles the in the last two years and did fine with stagefright.

Repeated exposure is how I'm getting over my fear of heights as well.

Halo 3

For me, the initial rush never ceases. My heart pounds so hard the shirt is seen thumping and I always end up having to take a dump. I've tried relaxing, doing the jogging/jumping jacks before presentations, and just trying to think about something else to get my mind clear.

Nothing has ever worked. I burn up and start breathing heavily.

What happens is I go up there, choke for about 30 seconds to one minute, and then everything just goes away and it's as if I am talking to a friend.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

I'm also a terrible public speaker. It's always been something I've struggled with, it's probably one of the toughest fears to overcome. Here's some things that I have realized over the years that make speaking publicly a little easier:

-Your audience is not here to judge you. They are also just as nervous to give their presentation and probably aren't really concerned with what you're saying anyways.

-Your audience doesn't notice you're nervous as much as you notice it yourself.

-The audience wants you to succeed. They don't want you to feel really nervous, because they understand how awful that feeling is. They are never against you or judging you.

-In the long term, this speech doesn't matter. Think back to a speech you had to give years ago. Nobody remembers how nervous you were, or even what you talked about. If you mess up during your speech, everyone will forget in a couple days anyways.

-Practice your speech as much as possible. This makes messing up a lot less likely.

I hope this helps you. I need to take my own advice, too. I also get just as nervous as you do usually. Best of luck to you!
