I've been a guitarist for a bit over a year, but ive started having an issue learning songs. About a year ago, around the same time i started taking guitar more seriously, i started listening to The Avett Brothers. I loved their music (still do) and learned a few of their songs. I started learning songs more frequently. A year later, i know probably over 40 songs, but they're mostly Avett Brothers.

A few months back i realized i was learning too much of their stuff, so i started learning stuff by some of my other favorite artists. The Head And The Heart, Modest Mouse, OCMS, Jack Johnson, Mumford and Sons, and Modest Mouse. I made a list of something like 20 songs to learn, and as i go through the list im starting to feel like it's getting repetitive again.

What are some bands i should look into to learn some songs from? I've started writing my own, but that takes time and i like to learn songs frequently, because it helps me keep learning new techniques and ideas on the guitar

Learn to play and sing Ed Sheeran's 'The A Team'... it's really easy and it will get you laid (which is funny because of the song's subject matter).

Actually, i already know that one. My friend's a vocalist and she asked me to learn to play the guitar bit with her.

They don't have to be easy. Just some fun acoustic stuff. I've been having fun learning stuff with friends (like A Team with that girl, and another friend wanted to record Amie by PPL with me) but all my musical friends are too busy to learn stuff with most of the time.

So yeah, thanks, but i know that one. Any other fun acoustic stuff?

Incomprehensible gibberish.

From the look of it, you seem to be into indie. Can't help you there, but you can always try things that are less chord heavy. Maybe some buckethead or other guitar virtuosos.

Yeah, indie and folk. There's a decent mix of chords and finger picking (mainly from the folk side).

I think i'm gonna try to find more songs by Dispatch. . .

^^I'v been playing with chord progressions and 12 bar blues (i have to know a 12 bar shuffle and be able to improve a solo to it for my audition next week).

Like i said, i'm trying to write some of my own stuff, so i'm trying to learn about chord progressions. But it's a slow process, ive only got like two and half done so far, and i like to learn songs from other artists because you can pick up techniques from them, and apply them to your own music in your own way.

Funk does sound fun. Any recommendations?

Funk:
James Brown
Stevie Wonder
Parliament
Earth Wind and Fire
Funkadelic

It's hit or miss with funk. You gotta find songs you think would be fun to play. I learned Bop Gun and Flashlight by parliament, and they're awesome to play and jam to.

Though, there's also acoustic people like Leo Kotke, Chet Akins, the like. A lot of their stuff is fun to play since it's not repetitive.
