This so stupid. The amount of time that we spend at school is not the problem, the problem is how ineffective our school system is. The United States is in dire need of an Education reform.

So much this.

This will definitely fly by quietly.

The three-year pilot program will affect almost 20,000 students in 40 schools, with long-term hopes of expanding the program to include additional schools -- especially those that serve low-income communities. Schools, working in concert with districts, parents and teachers, will decide whether to make the school day longer, add more days to the school year or both.

This is good news. I will accept anything that improves our lacking education here. I'm sure that the only reason we're not doing it here in Florida is because Florida schools have absolutely no money.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Its funny, when ever we talked about the 99%, people on public assistance, anyone who sues a corporation, etc..., you guys whip out the Personal Responsibility card, even going to the lengths of blaming women who were raped for dressing provocatively.

But when YOU are effected...NOW its suddenly someone else's fault. Now its not your fault.

Like I said, your generation just needs to study. Mine could pass the stupid tests, as could the one before. Why are you guys having so much problem with them?

We're not. We are learning more material at a rate faster than ever before.

If we're getting on the honor roll ever semester, why should we be forced to learn for extra hours alongside those who cannot factor?

Your generation in general, not you in specific.

Do you think that the tests have remained the same since when you took them? Schools are adding more material to their curriculum, it hasn't remained the same.

  • 12.02.2012 4:49 PM PDT

I highly doubt you took four different standardized tests in one school year. You also had teachers that were allowed to be more flexible with the curriculum, now they HAVE to teach certain benchmarks and subjects so that students can do well on those standardized tests that are being shoved down their throat.

Real education goes out the window when teachers are being told how to do their job from pencil pushers that have never taught before.

The school I work at currently has maybe 3-5 amazing teachers. You know the kind that actually care about the growth and education of the children. Funny thing is there are so many factors to this other than "The education system is to blame!". Staff, parent and the child all need involvement in order to succeed.

Not saying there is no need for change in the American educational system, but I don't think it's all to blame given the situation.

Are you kidding me? You guys can't even pass the tests WE were given.

Basic math, basic history, basic geography.

These are the tests I am talking about.

I haven't seen FMJ, so I wouldn't know.

I agree with shortening summer break. I think that was something touched in the article. I forget so much over three months. It wouldn't be so bad to cut it in half and have periodic breaks to make up for the gained time.

There is a certain point of tolerance that should never be reached.

Boo -blam!- hoo.

Get over it kids. If so many people weren't total screw ups, this wouldn't be an issue.

It was collective punishment, every time Pyle screwed up (which was often) the rest of the platoon suffered.
