I know you are but what am I?

Are you kidding me? You guys can't even pass the tests WE were given.

Basic math, basic history, basic geography.

These are the tests I am talking about.

That's not true. Our generation is scoring lower on our tests because the tests are harder. But we've seen an increase in IQ test results, which is a test that has remained the same since your generation.

It's still not the right way to go Charlie, remember what eventually happened to Pyle when the collective punishment started?

"Remember, it was all just a bad dream fat ass."

WHAT THE -blam!- IS THIS?

A JELLY DOUGHNUT?

Doesn't it make more sense to test Finlands education system on some schools? Obviously what ever Finland is doing works.

'murrica -blam!- yeah.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself

I've been around for a long, long year

Hey, it worked. He wasn't there screwing up when they saw combat.

He wasn't there AT ALL when they saw combat. The only combat he got was blowing his brains out after going crazy.

But there's no point discussing this. I over analyzed the Analogy, so now there's no link to the argument.

It was collective punishment, every time Pyle screwed up (which was often) the rest of the platoon suffered.

I haven't seen FMJ, so I wouldn't know.
That's a very different situation though. In the military it is essential to have all soldiers prepared and working together. You can't have someone fall and take the rest of their squad with them.

Schools aren't like that. At all. Students who don't care and fail, will, no matter how much time is put into classes. There are those who are not as smart as the others, sure, but there are lower level classes for them which can help them and go at a slower pace. The smarter students, or the more determined ones, will sign up for the harder and more demanding classes. They get a better education and in the end will probably get farther in life, and that's their call. Those who don't want to work for a better tomorrow shouldn't just have one handed to them like they've earned it. And those who have worked all their lives to get ahead shouldn't be punished for those who enjoyed their childhood more.

TL;DR - It's not fair, and that's a bad analogy.

iPhone 4S 64GB Black.

In secondary school, I have to do nine/ten thirty five minute classes each day, and then after-school study every day for two hours in order to do well in vital, pressurising, difficult state examinations. So, my average day is around nine hours, along with three-six hours of homework per night.

I'd hardly call a little increase in school time 'suffering'.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

You know what? I just had a crazy thought: What if they just hire better teachers and abolish the tenure that protects the lazy ones.

Boo -blam!- hoo.

Get over it kids. If so many people weren't total screw ups, this wouldn't be an issue.

This is good news. I will accept anything that improves our lacking education here. I'm sure that the only reason we're not doing it here in Florida is because Florida schools have absolutely no money.

Good. This generation of students don't understand the concept of hard work.

Good.

Good...until it affects you. Then it'd be BAD! BAAAAAD!

Its an analogy for what they are doing. That makes it a fine analogy. And life isn't fair, get used to it.

I used to be on a sales team. We were asked to come in an hour early for every person who missed their quota. Even though every month I exceeded mine, I still showed up and helped the guys that were struggling. Eventually the non-performers were asked to quit by the team.

It works just fine. Either you will get it through your thick skulls or you won't.

I'm in Tennessee but thankfully home schooled.

So you're saying we should pressure those who don't work hard enough or aren't smart to drop out? I'm sure that'll end well.

Also, I'm well aware that life isn't fair. Otherwise I wouldn't be getting myself a better education than other people.
