My contract is about to be up and I'm available for an upgrade. There are two phones that I've come down to for Sprint and I need help deciding.

LG Optimus G

Samsung Galaxy S4 (hoping it's for Sprint)

Now I know the S4 isn't out yet and it's highly unlikely that it'll look like that. But here's where I'm undecided. The LG is on sale for the holidays for $99.99 with a two-year contract. I'm undecided whether I should take that deal or wait for the S4, which MIGHT come out in 3-4 months and pay the likely $199.99 it will be set at. It's rumored to have the flexible screen, a 4.99 inch 1080p screen with 441 ppi, a 13MP camera, and 8 cores. What do you think?

P.S. I'm not looking into the Nexus 4, I'd like to have more storage than the 16GB it offers plus it is more expensive than what I'm looking at with a new contract.

Thank you, Captain K Mart.

The S3 is probably at the very least 7 months away. Probably 9 or 10.

As with computers, with a smartphone not everything is in the specs. You gotta look at the brand. HTC, Samsung, Motorola, and Apple all make very high quality phones. The fact that a phone is a quad or octa core is pretty meaningless, considering nothing you could run would really need that much power anyways.

What would you use your phone for most?

I doubt the S4 will have those specs. Those are too big of a jump.

I was going to mention the Nokia Lumia 920, but you said Sprint, so I can't help you there. Do you need a new phone now? How is your current phone working?

currently I'm editing a lot of documents for work on the go. I'd like to have a phone for that rather than taking my computer. I also have a lot of apps going on my current phone, plus games/movies/etc.

I'd basically like it to be my computer away from my computer.

It's a low end android phone

It can't do what I want to do on the go.

So you want a big screen, but you want a nice looking screen to. I guarantee you won't get that with anything LG; they don't focus on making they're screen look great. And it's not just pixels, either. Grab literally any phone, turn the brightness all the way up, and go to the settings menu. Put that next to a GS3 with the brightness all the way up, in the settings menu.

The difference is night and day. Samsung put a lot into making the beautiful SAMOLED screen, and it's a huge difference. You'll notice it when watching movies and playing games.

I would say get the GS3. But I'm mildly biased. Sprint doesn't exactly have the best selection of phones, though, either. I mean, I have a general distrust of LG. And Sprint deals a lot with LG. They also deal a lot with HTC, and I can definitely recommend HTC if you're looking for something cheaper. My Evo 3D is incredible.

But I'm in the process of upgrading to a GS3 (and AT&T). The nicer screen is probably the big thing for me.

8 Cores?

Dafaq do you need that many cores for a phone?

Multi tasking 200 apps?

Playing BF3 Ultra settings... on a phone?

Oh wait, draining battery. Duh.

But I'd rather not get the GS3 if the GS4 is right around the corner.

But it hardly is. The GS3 was released in May, but that was overseas in some African country. It didn't hit the US til like, what, August? And you know they want to release it in line with the next iPhone. It's gonna be late summer. Like 8 months.

There has to be a point where you can say, OK, even though it isn't the "newest" hotness, it's still really new, and really hot, and still really good. If 4 months is already too long... you're putting yourself in a depressing and unfulfilling situation. You're putting your gadget up on a pedestal as the most important thing, so it needs to be the latest and greatest.

I might be way off, but I don't think I am. I was the same way. Had to always be the latest and newest. But objects aren't worth that much, man.

AH, that's right. Forgot about that.

Now the only thing I need is someone who has used the Optimus G. I've heard that with all the cores it has, the battery life get's drained REALLY quickly.

And what do all the cores give you?

The American version of the GS3 is only a dual-core. My HTC Evo 3D is only a dual-core. Yet it never bogs down and has been able to run every app I've ever picked up. Several of my friends have the GS3, and it's just as powerful.

There's simply nothing out there yet that you could do on your phone- within normal conditions- that requires a quad or octa core. It's kinda really silly.

The Optimus gives you the option to turn off the cores if you don't use them, but I think the additional two are for those multitasking features it has, like watching a video behind an app, or the quick notes (or whatever it's called)
