And what do we get in return: Spartan ops. Oh how I was excited when it was first announced. I discussed it many times, over and over again with some of my friends, also big Halo lovers. We decided it was time for firefight to step down. It was monotonous, even after the additions made in Reach. We've seen enough of the same, repetitive enemy drops, over and over again achieving absolutely nothing per mission except for a few credits in Reach and some achievements in ODST.
Spartan Ops was going to be different, new maps every episode, composed of chapters that would outline an outstanding brand new storyline. We figured it would be an addition to the multiplayer, something fun to do alone or with friends. Something innovative and especially: something challenging.
And what did we get?
Crimson, goddamn eggheads pushed a button, now do the same! Oh no Crimson what's going on? you pushed another button and now there's prometheans everywhere! Elite warrior platoon, go out there and rescue some marines? Oh wait they're gone, why don't you fight some covenant who just happen to be there on your way? How about pushing another button? Make sure you don't skip the button on the other side of the map. Guess what, there's another one on the exact same position there was last time. Push it. Push that button Miller. Hnnnngg
Crimson. Boots on the ground. Eggheads.
Goddamn eggheads.
Oh gee whiz, I hope 3000 prometheans don't spawn totally out of nowhere and own me.
And here comes the best part, let's juts re-use the same maps over and over again I mean, it's not improbable we utterly destroy a sector and withing 25 minutes the covenant and prometheans completely occupy the same sector over and over again and add 4 anti air cannons while they're at it. And when we're done playing sniper alley and vulcano island, why don't we just use some multiplayer maps? It's not like we've seen Complex and Valhalla, I mean Ragnarok, enough already.
But it sure is challenging, what would I do without all the ammo boxes laying around? Oh that's right I can just kill myself, spawn and spray my dmr untill the job is done. Well done Crimson, you died 43 times and completed the mission. Looks like someones getting a good old pattin' on the shoulder tonight. And to make it even more challenging, here's an objective to defend, but hey, it's ok if you fail everyone makes mistakes.
And then the plot twist. Remember that sector you cleared? Well we didn't expect this to happen, but the eggheads pushed another button and suddenly there's prometheans everywhere. It's not like we have some sort of a giant orbital gun on our giant flying fortress that could just annihilate them withing 0,5 seconds. Why don't you go down there?
In the meantime, we'll just start sending another team of scientists back to another sector you cleared. It's not like we'll run out of scientists soon. You did clear it right? We've also heard there's some shiny objective and no one was able to get it before so can you do that? Yeah that's a good boy Crimson. That's a good boy. Who's a good boy? that's right you are. Now I'll start being all pissed off again for no reason ain't that right Majestic? Here's some toys to play. Unlimited Mantis, everlasting spawns. Drown them in a river of your own blood. You are a Spartan. You are a destroyer of worlds. You cannot die, you will respawn. You will take down that elite with your unlimited battle rifle ammo.
Eggheads.
And make sure to push that button and hold the area, untill the pelican arrives.
