Subject: A question about my PC

It has a measely 3gig at the moment so I want to get rid of the 1 gig stick and get a 4 gig. However I am still runniing Vista 32bit and I heard this may cause a problem or it just won't accept the Ram.

I also heard that having uneven ram is un healthy for my computer is this true? Although it was built with uneven ram in the first place. Sorry im not too great with computers

ALL HAIL GABEN

1) Link your computer
2) Buy a Windows 7 Home Premium any time upgrade (it's cheaper than regular Windows 7....make sure it's 64 bit!)

The reason why Im asking is because I dont want to do that lol I have next to no money and was just wondering if using 4 gig stick would be a problem with my current set up

Thanks, the mother board has been changed though as something had fried on it before but the spec is the same. Got it about four years ago now.

Vista won't take more than 3.25GB (?) of RAM, 7 and 8 go to 16GB. You'll want the same DDR type (most/nearly all PCs bought today will have DDR3), not sure about uneven sticks though.

All 32bit won't take more than 3-whatever-GB.
I learned it the hard way ;_;

Windows 32-bit just won't read (take use of) any more 3 whatever gigabytes. So you'll have some lazy RAM in your system.

You'll only have something like 3.75GB available. I know with Windows 7, you can upgrade to x64 free of charge, not sure about Vista.

It's fine to run "uneven" RAM. It's just better to run RAM in a symmetrical way.
