Two movies you should watch: Fight Club and Pineapple Express

"Wait. What do you mean, it's dead?"
"If marijuana is not legal within the next five years I have no faith left in humanity, period. Everyone likes smoking weed. They have for thousands of years. They're not going to stop anytime soon. You know? It makes everything better. Makes food taste better, makes music better. It makes sex feel better for God's sake. It makes -blam!- movies better you know?"

It was a joke. I still like alot of their songs though.

Champagne I'm sipping on, the shit tastes different, don't it? You know what? You right
It's like the best damn champagne I had in my life
"When you coming home?" That's a text from my wife
I told her run a bubble bath
And float in that motherfucker like a hovercraft
And soak in that motherfucker 'til I call you back
I mean, who says shit like that, and doesn't laugh?(..... Heh)

I don't get all the hate on Linkin Park. What's up with that?
Too much angst

It's just that average American band that their fans hail as amazing and they barely know how to write a song. There the 1D of rock music.

  • 12.03.2012 2:00 PM PDT

lolnope.

World Party. Also to the guy above me, Creedence Clearwater Revival, America, Fleetwood Mac, and Crosby Stills Nash and Young would like to have a word with you.

"There's this theory that if there were an infinite number of monkeys pecking away at typewriters, they would eventually write the great works of Shakespeare, but thanks to the internet we now know that's not true." -Adam Savage

There's more to the "hardcore" aspect than just being good at your instrument.[/quote]
They used interesting scales and intervals beyond pentatonic stuff, and Black Dog is still a freaking mystery as to what's going on with its counting. What do you mean? When I say hardcore, I mean people who need complex compositions to keep them from getting bored.
Fair point, musically they did some interesting stuff.

Pretty interesting? That's all? Some of the things they did were -blam!- genius! If you don't really understand music and how it works, I think it's really hard to comprehend how intensely amazing Led Zeppelin was.

Not sonically interesting however, but that's a different ballpark really.
This is a pretty ambiguous statement. Some people think that "sonically," dubstep is purely amazing. However, I think that sonically, it's a piece of crap. Stairway to Heaven has got to be one of the most sonically interesting pieces of work I have ever had the enjoyment of hearing. That might also stem from the fact that I understand what's really happening in the song.... what's happening is something that I could never even imagine myself creating.

I do understand music, I still don't find them to be the most interesting musicians on the block

I'm talking about making music with interesting sounds and experimenting with sound in general. Zep songs all sound pretty conventional with the instrumentation used when lots of other bands in the progressive and psychedelic rock area used tons of unique and strange sounds in their music. Look at Barrett-era Pink Floyd and all the bands in the Krautrock genre, they had some weird stuff going on there.

Well, for my personal favorites:

Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Rush

Sorry, had to wipe the vomit off my keyboard.

On topic, very good list. Listening to some Sgt. Pepper's right now.

Turkey

In no particular order:

Iron Maiden (Their first seven albums and past four don't have a SINGLE bad song on them).

Iced Earth (they have some of the most well-written songs/concept albums ever. Night of the Stormrider and the Something Wicked saga are truly amazing, and Matt Barlow is easily my favorite vocalist for any band).

The Beatles

Metallica (mostly the Ride the Lightning - AJFA era; The Black Album had some great songs, but it overall wasn't as good as their previous work IMO)

Rush (2112's title track has been and always will be the greatest song ever written, IMO. Its storyline is so deep and huge that an entire universe can comprehensibly be built around it)

Judas Priest (Their 70s material is their best, IMO. Sad Wings of Destiny and Stained Class are some of my favorites).

Just off the top of my head.
