Just because Bungie will not be there doesn't mean Activision won't be there to release a trailer.
Again: Bungie has no reason to bait and switch us.

Look at it this way:

If Bungie's next game was going to be revealed tonight by anyone in any fashion, the optimal plan would be to continue to let the hype build to a breaking point when the trailer is suddenly shown and then the hype will burst through the roof.

Where does telling lies or half truths get them? All it would do is reduce the build up, making the resulting explosion less powerful and far more confused. We'd be excited as hell for sure, but there would be that voice in the back of your head saying over the explosion "Why the hell did they say they weren't going to be there if they were showing their game?"

You never know, but just because they aren't going to the VGA's, doesn't mean they can't do something on here.

But I'm just clutching at straws, why must they wait so long! I don't want to moan and whine but this is taking forever. Why can't they just do a reveal like reach?

They don't have to show any of the game. What are they waiting for? If the contract still holds true then they are releasing next year, I swear this is cutting it way too close. : (

But... Activision by itself sucks butt...

I know Bungie has "partnered" with them for Destiny, but I don't enjoy anything else they put out.

Naw.

I'll just spend my evening with Halo 4, the Elder Scrolls, and/or the wife*.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I would say the hype is extremely high for a game that has not even been announced yet.

I have Dead Orbit and I just got new Monarchy today.

I know people have been hyped for Destiny, don't treat me like I have been crazy for being to only one.

If you aren't interested in the future, why are you even here?

Don't forget that you're on a very biased site. We're all Bungie fans here, so obviously we're going to be very excited with any news they spread our way.

But, for the rest of the gaming community, while there have been mentions of Destiny, it largely remains unknown and therefore hasn't garnered a huge amount of hype. The general public at large has no idea about the game even with faint whispers of "what is Bungie up to?" out there.

It may be that we'll see them talk about the game more formally with simple news stories including screenshots on the game before we even see a trailer. Embargos could lift for news publications leading up the trailer reveal of their next game on a specific date.

This would allow the news to filter around more and promote traffic up until the big debut. Or, they'll simply reveal the trailer alongside media embargo's lifting simultaneously. I predict it'll happen in January since they likely won't have any competition with other IP's getting their name out there and ultimately getting Destiny out there is the name of the game for the marketing train to begin.

The "leak" has generated some good hype. I just know, like you said, for a 2013 release there has to be something soon.

See you in 2013... when the darkness ends and we can talk about our 2014 game.

Watch out. If I post in your thread, chances are it'll die. I've been cursed, and if I kill your thread, I'm sorry.

I'm really sick of this "soon" stuff.

Just give us a date already! The game is already in a semi-playable state, so why not at least give us SOMETHING.

I'm just getting annoyed now...

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

I know its funny considering my username, but this stuff has been going on for too long, and that we at least deserve a date for the reveal if it isn't at the VGAs.

I don't know about you all, but I don't consider a year to be "soon".

The fact that Bungie has made a press packet means they are preparing for something.

There could be a teaser in the VGAs, who knows.

There are supposedly 6 unannounced games being presented and shown.

/hope

Oh! You mean that thing clearly referencing the launch of the actual game?

I've been curious about this all day.....where did you get that idea from? And how was it "clearly".

Does anyone think that Bungie originally planned something for the VGAs but then changed plans due to the recent leak?

After watching the VGAs I'm slightly glad that Bungie weren't there. That was just pathetic.

I knew Bungie wasn't going to announce anything at the VGA. People asking me where is my proof when DeeJ stated twice that we wouldn't hear anything from them until 2013. Also personally glad Bungie didn't announce anything. The last thing the VGAs need is more publicity. Bungie can announce their new game anytime and still make a lasting impact on consumer; plenty of studios do this.
