I'm a college dropout.

The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past better than it was, the present worse than it is, and the future less resolved than it will be.
- Marcel Pagnol

Can be applied to this too, I suppose.

OT: Morrowind, Halo 3, Halo CE, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 Episodes, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Fallout 3, Counter-Strike: Source, Dota 2, ARMA 2, Terraria, Rage, Garry's Mod, Hard Reset.

Two of those games you listed are good, the rest are pretty bad.

The key to finding good games is knowing where to look. Look harder. A good game is Portal.

That's off of the top of my head

Three good games, one mediocre but acceptable one. Try harder.

I found Amnesia to be really bad. The environments are bland. The monster becomes tedious about 10 minutes into the game. It just becomes Hiding in Cupboards: The Game. The puzzles are lame.

Signatures are for little kids.

You have to know where to look.

If someone didn't tell me about XCOM: Enemy Unknown I'd have missed it, but right now it's one of the best games I've ever played.

As far as FPS campaigns go, I agree they're all really boring and tedious.

It's mediocre, but acceptable compared to what tries to pass as a horror game this days (Dead Space, RE, etc).

But they're action horrors, Amnesia is a survival horror. Possibly the only fairly decent one in about 5 years.

FEAR?

And I have played both Half Life and Halo CE, and I can tell you right now, that the only thing similar about those two games is the fact that you carry weapons, the protagonist is silent, and you never see his face.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

Super Checkers is a good game from mid 2007.

But honestly, your borderline hipster assessment of modern gaming is irritating. You don't have the resume' required to be taken seriously saying "all video games of the last 12 years suck" unless you're trying to make some clever point, but it seems you're just throwing them all under the bus.

There have been great games in the last decade, and if it weren't the case, gaming wouldn't continue to grow in popularity.

If you really thought all games of the last 12 years sucked, you wouldn't be playing any of them, and you wouldn't have a Bungie.net account.

TF2, Minecraft, Soul Calibur 4, Halo 3 and Halo 4, and Chromehounds.

Your argument is invalid.
Soul Calibur 4? Oh boy, a fighter. Those just haven't been up there with FPS and RPG.

Seriously, every game, 2000 on are terrible.

Halo CE may be called, revolutionary, but in reality, it was a blatant rip-off of Half-Life. Half Life 2 was in fact, terrible. Seriously, how did Gordon get to city 17? 2006 and on, things got worse. Video Games nowadays are almost always known for being unoriginal FPS. There is no originality in games anymore. They are now known for Angry Russians, Space Aliens, and Bald guys with shotguns.

Also, don't get me started with the new Fallout games. They. Are. Terrible.

Seriously Flood, give me one good game from 2000-2012.

Your face.

Steam

OP wants good games from 2000-2012

Sure;
Deus Ex, Thief II: The Metal Age, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Diablo II, Perfect Dark, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Serious Sam: The First Encounter, Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, Sonic Adventure 2, Max Payne, Silent Hill 2, Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto III, Ico, Empire Earth, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

That's just 2000-2001. Shall I continue?

  • 12.03.2012 11:21 PM PDT

I make a living of selling my body, and I don't mean sex.

I usually enjoy games that I pick up that are from the 80-90s period more than the ones that I play now. (07 onwards) I just like the way they present the story/gameplay more than the way they do it now.

The only game series I may be *blinded* to nostalgia would be Halo.

The standards for gaming have dropped. Resulting in progressively crappier games, however there are exceptions but most of the games produced nowadays are crap. Graphics > Gameplay nowadays for developers.

Games are dumbed down to the point of nothing being a challenge, I understand the developers are going for presentation but that doesn't mean the game can't at least be challenging or always telling me where I have to go with a marker or a marker on a mini map. I like to find out where to go. I don't like having my hand held during the entire experience, which I think is the main issue now.
