I have it. I taken medication for it. I went from Cs and Ds to straight A's while taken medication. I guess some people are just misdiagnosed? I don't know. My memory seems to suck and my focus always wanders.
My third year teacher tried to get me on Ritalin because apparently I was too much to handle even though I was just bored in class because I already knew what she was teaching us. My mum told her to get stuffed and transferred me to a different school where teachers knew how to stimulate brighter students.

I'm very glad I wasn't put on that mind-numbing medication

I'm glad that I wasn't on Ritalin then?
I never said you were, I was merely replying to your comment about misdiagnosis.

One of my good friends as a kid was put on Ritalin. He for sure didn't need it. He's kind of messed up today. Sad.

Now go make me some tea.

My little sister is 9, and recently her mom made her take ADHD medicine. I know her well enough to know she doesn't have it.

It's sickening. I have to take the medication because of the side effects of quitting is too much to bare.

This popped up while looking at youtube vids. It was an add with the dude from Maroon 5/Moron 5 (lulz). He was saying he has ADHA and "dealt with it." Then later said to "own it."

Anyway, long story short, ADHD and ADD considered a disorder still. For kids, it's called BEING A FREAKING KID WITH ENERGY!
For older people, it's called social media desensitizing us.

Yes i understand there is no link. Just my random night thoughts.

What do you all think of this?
Do you think it's really a disorder or just in their heads=nature humanistic behavior whilst having energy?

Whoa cowboy. ADHD and ADD are legitimate issues, but it is over diagnosed WAY too much. Look up the RSA animated clip on the education system in the US.

I take medication for ADD, and can attest that it is indeed a disorder.

Same. I'm 23 years old in Radiology school and I am basically helpless without my ADHD medicine. I focus on pens clicking, clocks ticking, people shifting around, and coughing. I am a slave to my disorder. :(

Brain scans have shown a physiological difference between the brains of those with and without ADHD. It's a real disorder.

Wrong. ADHD is a clinically diagnosed disorder that is much deeper than just appearing energetic. Can you deal with it without medication? Yes. That doesn't mean medication isn't a smart choice.

Exactly. The negative stigma surrounding ADD/ADHD is due to a large amount of mis-diagnosis by childrens PCP's that have no backround in behavioral psychiatry, and parents looking for something to "fix" their kids.

Served in the UNSC army since Halo 1. Now awaiting deployment in Bungies new game.

having grown up with ADD/ADHD, it is hard to stay focused on work and tasks for a long time. but some people try to use it as an excuse to be lazy.

I will cut the ever loving F*** out of both of you. I will kill you. You little s***s, you worthless miss placed come shots. How DARE you. I will cut you into little pieces, and hide you under the floor board.
I hope both of you rot. Hitler is now crying right now, knowing he is no longer the worlds biggest Dick, cause both of you share that title. Please, do me the favor of not having to dirty my hands and kill yourselves.

It's all about marketing and emone.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
-Douglas Adams

I would call it a disorder and I think it's important that those who have it get as much help as they need/can.
However it's sad that some people use it as an excuse to be lazy.

  • 12.04.2012 11:22 AM PDT

OP do you even know what ADHD is?

ADD is now considered ADHD-Primarily Inattentive

I have ADHD.

Yeah, it's a disorder and i've never really cared as much about it until I hit college. I take medication now and the pills I have are pretty much the only way I can function in school. I also get bored from doing things (like video games) really fast and hard to stay on one task at a time.

I do agree that is over-diagnosed and the medicine over-prescribed. It's also pathetic to see people use it as an excuse for being lazy. I know the difference between when I'm lazy or I just can't focus and pay attention. I discipline myself as best I can.

I don't believe that most of the kids that are "diagnosed" with ADHD actually have anything wrong with them. More likely, their parents never punish them for their out of control behavior and they think they can act as crazy as they want to. People are becoming worse and worse parents these days.
Actually, ADD and ADHD are very widely misdiagnosed. VERY widely.

It is a disorder though.

Time for you to get in the drug business brah.

Back in my day, ADD medication used to sell for a pretty penny on campus. It helps everyone focus - not just those with the disease, so people routinely took it to help them push through all-nighters and large reports.

My best friend has ADHD and he got physically disciplined far more than I did. It's a disorder, not an excuse for bad parenting.

It really helps to learn what something actually is before you go around yelling about how it is not real.

This is why we let experts make decisions about medical diagnoses. They actually know what they are talking about.

Oh trust me, I've thought about doing that once I heard how much some people were willing to pay for them.

but nah, saved it all for me

Obviously it exists - but it is overdiagnosed and medication overprescribed. That is just the way our healthcare works nowadays.

The symptoms are vague and mainly behavioral - so really, I could walk into a doctor's office right now and get a prescription for Adderall if I wanted to.

Scans of the brain do show differences between people with add and without. Something to do with the frontal lobes and dopamine receptors, I did a report on it a while ago. You could just search it on google.
