I never understood 3D printing.
Wizardry and Magic.

Why do this? Just why would you want to do this?
Because magic is awesome.

Inappropriate. Went a little to far with the butt hole tearing.

Am I the only one who sees 3D-printed guns as a potential security threat?

6 shots is plenty; hell, one shot is enough

"I actually don't hold a grudge against someone talking trash about me if they're shot afterwards, I try to rise above that "

Gordon Freeman, Freeman's Mind

The only dangers I can see of this is they are untraceable, undetectable, and could cause accidental suicide.

Think if they chose a bigger gun, with a bigger round. Might jam the gun, and then the next shot breaks the gun violently.

Otherwise, I predict printable tanks by 2020.

Wait is the printed gun 100% plastic?

Ugh, that just means they are going to move on from metal detectors and make you go through those radiation machines all the time now...

I hate article titles like this, they're very misleading. The "gun" that's been 3D printed is not a gun, but a legal gun. The only thing printed was the plastic lower receiver, which is the legal definition of a "gun".

For this to actually be used as a weapon would require a metal barrel and upper receiver, which cannot be 3D printed.

As far as the "gun control" side of things go, people have been able to manufacture their own weapons for a long time with CNC machines, which can make metal parts.

There is no 3D printable gun. There is a 3D printable lower receiver. The lower receiver is useless without a metal barrel and metal upper receiver which cannot be 3d printed. CNC machines have existed for a long time, and are capable of making every part of a weapon (out of metals), and as you can see there isn't currently a problem with CNC machined guns flooding the streets.

People are afraid of things they don't understand, and more so things they misunderstand.

No it isn't. There are still parts that are made of metal detector delectable metal.

Hey, I just read the OP, how was I supposed to know? :P

I figured it was the case, but perhaps there will be a plastic printable gun in the future, or even one made with different materials.

You know the person is going to need METAL BULLETS to cause damage right? It's not a security threat.

Six shots is all you need.

Then your gun breaks apart and you can easily hide the evidence.

Actually.... that could work quite well. The gun could be very easily disposed of, and if you print your own unique bullet.....

Where is this going?
