Subject: Should Steam be allowed to do this?

I brought Darkspore the other day from Steam. I enjoyed the beta and it was 75% so I thought why the hell not?
So it's all downloaded and I punch-in my Origin Log-in (the same one I used for the beta they had for the game a while back). Problem is, every time I do this I'm met with a log-in error 73003.
I thought maybe my e-mail wasn't registered and I was just being a dipstick thinking my e-mail was registered. Nope, I was right. It tells me I have a Darkspore profile already linked to my e-mail.
I then find out that EA/Maxis have run into a mysterious sever problem (this strange Er73003) and have just up and left the game and it's community in the dark, never to be seen again. This whole ridiculous matter is for another thread entirely.

So basically Steam have sold me a game that hasn't been working for a while now and will probably never get a fix because EA haven't had as much success as they would like out of it so they're tossing it to the side. What the actual hell?

Note: People I'm not that angry at Steam. More so at EA. Though Steam should know if a game on their service is working before putting it up for 75% off SALE, but I can accept it for being an honest mistake. I just feel the need as a customer to complain like all the rest of you would do.

"I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights!"

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

- "Cross of Iron"

Its not steams fault the game isn't being supported any more. They just provide the platform for the game to be purchased/downloaded and launched from.

Rain, and Jazz.
Halo: Tactical

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

This is more to do with EA than Steam.

Right now you should go on the Steam forums and notify them about what happened. They will probably pull this unplayable game from their shelves. You (and other players) might even get a refund if they do.

Yeah since that is more of a developer side issue not a Steam issue. Sure you could argue it is their job to make sure all their games work, but that is debatable since they did work initially when they were put on Steam. Anything past that is up to the consumer to fix.

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

If you mention this on the appropriate Steam forum, I'm sure you can get a refund and get the game removed from the store. I'm guessing they just didn't know about this.

Not Steam's fault, really. They just distributed the game. Try contacting their support and asking for a refund.

But don't blame them for EA being a dick.

Doubt it since from the sounds of it the game works, but the OP can't use his current email. Even if it didn't work that wouldn't be the first time to happen. For the most part once you buy a game it is up to you not Steam to get it to work.

My logic is undeniable.
the.dredwerkz@gmail.com
e-mail me about anything.
Don't send me group invites.

Send steam an email that you want a refund and your rights to play the game revoked on the grounds the software doesn't work.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

Did Steam have reviews up on it? If so, you really should have read those before buying the game.

Halo 3 is where the morons of the universe congregates.

I am thinking of an old story. "Three Billy Goats Gruff" (hint the troll dies at the end)

If you had an electron microscope, you still couldn't find the -blam!- I don't give.

It sounds more like EAs fault, it's there game and they should have fixed/recalled it and given a refund

But we all know all about EA and their gentlemens disagreement with valve

Why put a game on sale if it don't work? And how else would I know that a game released not that long ago had been completely abandoned?

Because it might work for someone else and not you.

Yeah, in the process of this right now. Who knows how many others saw it going for cheap as chips though?

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

If a store sold me a game that was broken or didn't work for some reason I cannot control, I would expect them to refund to me the purchase price as well as stop selling all defective copies of the good.

Remember those times when we all had something better to be doing, but didn't do it? Those were good times. Gooood times

I've looked into it and it seems to be happening to everyone who is trying to log into the game.
