From all the "rotten" reviews, they complained about the fact that it is a lot of travel vs. little action. Which would be expected since they broke up the book into multiple movies...

Still will see it, if it is a good movie, then I will be happy.

Basically. This movie is going to end before they enter the Misty Mountains, or right after Bilbo gets the Ring from Gollum.

The only "action" up to that point in the book is the encounter with the trolls and the encounter with goblins in the Misty Mountains.

This is a set-up movie for the other two action-wise.

Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo

I withhold any opinion of The Hobbit, and those of the critics until I have seen the movie first-hand myself. I've been hesitant to trust reviewers as of late, especially since Breaking Dawn Part 2 somehow beat Sinister critically.

  • 12.04.2012 11:32 AM PDT

But OP there's a 50/50 chance it'll flop. It either will or it won't.

  • 12.04.2012 11:37 AM PDT

But it has Gandalf!

OT: I do agree that the trilogy thing is stupid but you know what? I'm gonna see them all anyway.

  • 12.04.2012 12:06 PM PDT

+1 for you good sir.

I don't listen to critics anyways. I'll go see the movie and make my own assessment.

Per Audacia Ad Astra

Trailer lacks action, but apparently the story involves a fight with a dragon. We'll see.

I thought it was that the first two films are about the Hobbit, and then the third film bridges the Hobbit and the Fellowship together...

So reviews determine whether a film is a "flop" or not?

In some cases yes, its not outlandish

Major props to my hommie Sheeef. He made Recon possible for me. Long time recovering emails and passwords. And it was his. lol.

How is anyone supposed to take you seriously?
It's panties, don't worry about it. Now all we need is A Good Troll to pop in and we're good.
EDIT: lol looks like he has been here. XD

OP: True, but that won't stop millions of people from seeing it. Why? It's another LOTR-type movie. It will makes a lot of money opening night and possibly into the next week. But regardless, it'll be a cool movie.

Hooray for poor houses!

Damn straight

Don't care about the reviews, still super excited.

On a side note: I've actually been in Tolkien's office where he wrote some of the LoTR series.

Don't watch it then. Carry on with your life and watch reruns of LotR, you bum.

  • 12.04.2012 12:39 PM PDT

I want her...

But it's not even on general release yet

We can't judge based on trailers, there was a lot of footage from Deathly Hallows Part 2 in the Part 1 trailer.

My money is on it ending right before Mirkwood or something.

Somebody from New Zealand posted and that he saw it somehow and said it was good.

  • 12.04.2012 1:27 PM PDT

1. "flop" indicates it made no money, not that it got mixed reviews

2. Half the complaints are about the 48 fps thing, which isn't even a factor in most theaters

3. The other half of the complaints are "its too long" or "nothing happens", which is the same crap people said about Fellowship

edit:

4. I still have some reservations about the film but wont use these reviews to prove to myself that its bad

ALSO, its all but confirmed that the movie ends during/right after the barrels in the river scene.

The one thing about reviews is that they're trying to find something negative about the movie. That's their job. 11 positives and 4 negatives on Rotten Tomatoes?

1. That's more good than bad.
2. That's only 15 total
3. Rotten Tomatoes? Who cares?

Also, the more advertised a movie is, the more likely it is to get bad reviews.

I watch movies because I enjoy them. If I enjoyed a movie, I will say it was good.

This.

I've been a Tolkien fan ever since I could pick up a book. I've loved the LOTR films from the day they were released. The Hobbit has a fantastic cast and a passionate production team, I don't care if it's not as good as the original 3 films (few films these days even come close to capturing the scale, emotion and mystique of the LOTR trilogy but I still manage to enjoy them), I know I'm going to love it.

I completely agree. I love the respect the whole team has for Tolkien's writing, and the lengths they go to in order to honor it. I don't see it being as good as the LOTR trilogy, because the book didn't have the same incredible scale and emotion. But it will still be very well designed and produced, I'm sure.

I agree too. You can't expect the Hobbit to be better than the Rings trilogy. To expect that is to expect better than the best, which is a stupid expectation.

So long as it is a worthy prequel, I'm fine.

  • 12.04.2012 1:33 PM PDT

Shame they made it into 3 movies. I would have taken 2 but really, 3 for the shortest book?

I'll still be watching it later though.

There is just something magical about leaning your head back, letting your eyes roll into the back of your head, and taking a piss while floating in the swimming pool.

It already has a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes, 11 positives (but none claim it's outstanding) and already 4 negatives. At this rate, the movie is looking like it'll be subpar.

It will be a decent film, with good technical aspects and perhaps some decent action scenes, but it will not live up to the LotR trilogy.

I hope this subpar Hobbit Trilogy (obviously made to milk this LotR cow) does not tarnish the original trilogy.

inb4 butthurt nerds

inb4 "Lelelle op stupid you haven't seen it yet" (I have, I thought it was nothing special)

inb4 OP is retarded for taking reviewes seriously

It's not a flop but I do hope there is only going to be two movies.

The problem is The Hobbit as a book sucks anyways. I knew the movie wasn't going to be that great compared to the LOTR trilogy. Nobody says, "Read the Hobbit first".
