I got a couple of regrettable tattoos but, you can't see 'em when I wear a black suit.

Thinking about how more than handfuls of people thought the suspicious looking email containing their specialization codes was a virus and deleted them. Then just recently 343i decided to send the codes to people that didn't already receive them through XBL messages, would it actually be possible to programme a virus into an XBL message?
In fact, is it possible for a non-modded Xbox to get a virus to begin with? It doesn't sound entirely out of reach with the implementation of internet explorer...

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

e : I would advise you be careful about opening picture messages. Someone sent me a pic of female tissue responsible for producing lactose-built liquids for their offspring, covered in the chemical messenger provided by the male which carries haploid gametes.

If Fed Ex and UPS merged into one company, would it be called Fed Up?

I don't want to start another account for a digital number that has no true value in ten years.

Well I remember back in the Halo 3 days you could host kick people from lobbies by sending them a party invite (assuming they accepted it of course). Probably not likely tho.

Wasn't there some sort of message that caused your Xbox to turn off or something a few years ago?

I don't know of any viruses that can be sent through XBL messages, but there is a few that can be sent other ways:

Graveyard.sav for Borderlands 2 (destroys the gamesave)

Blackscreens for GTA IV and other games (Xbox freezes/crashes, essentially kicks you out of the game in an annoying way)

There is probably a few others but I don't know of them.

Currently studying Computer Science & Software engineering. Hope to work on mobile devices of the future! When a certain game's credits roll, look out for my name! ;)

You will -blam!- bricks when you see what game it is! =)

unless you send a link that leads to an infected page, no. XBL messages do not support anything other than plain ol' UTF8 encoded text.

Without The Flood, I wouldn't know what an opinion is.

The "gravyard.sav" isn't anything close to a virus. Stop blowing it up like it is.

For those who don't know, there is glitch in Borderlands 2 where an implemented but not normally accessible "Badass Mode" can be activated for a save profile. Short of modding your own files (which was how it was accidentally activated originally), this mode can be accidentally toggled on for a particular character profile by playing with another player's character who already has the mode enabled.

If a character with badass mode enabled dies (or even goes into Fight for Your Life) then if they exit the game, their save file for that character will be overwritten by a file called "graveyard.sav".

It's just an error in coding. A bug. It's not a program designed to be intentionally destructive. It's not a virus at all.

Gamertag - Rdog 11

Call me Rdog, not RdOG or RdOG1507. I made that username when I thought it was cool to use alternating capital and lowercase letters...

I didn't even think about the Specializations message being unsafe. I opened it right away and entered the code. Luckily it was fine.

Doubtful considering the OS that Xbox is on. Plus I don't seen many ways it could be transmitted.

host kick

How did this term even become a thing? It's DDoS'ing not "host booting" That doesn't even make any sense.

A DDoS/IP Flood, is when your xbox and other devices cant connect to the internet because of the router being overwhelmed with packets. A host boot is when you can still connect and use the internet, you just get ejected from the game.
