Rock bottom is no place to set up camp. Especially in the dark.

I hate it when people say this. T4R

The problems are still there. The fact that other problems exist does not in any way cancel your problems out. Now, what I'm talking about is circumstantial. I don't want to hear any whining about how you did not get the newest phone.

But just today, I had been crying over my father. There's a lot behind this, and I can't be bothered to explain. But my mom said, "At least you're not fending off lions somewhere in a jungle. You have a roof over your head, food, and love. That's all that should matter."

While this is true, I can't stand how some people think it's comforting in the slightest that other people are less fortunate than you. Your problems are still problems. Just because I live in a first world country does not mean my freedom to complain about family affairs is revoked.

What do you think?

Inappropriate. Went a little to far with the butt hole tearing.

Dude, if you combine two problems, you get a solution.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

Just like that First World Problems bull-blam!-. Sure, they're not as bad as some problems other people have, but they're still problems, and even worse, they're happening to me!

Agree

But I also just hate people in general.

Let's take an example: starvation and obesity.

Simply feed obese people to starving people.

I don't think lions actively hunt people, and I don't think lions live in the jungle (they live in the savanna).

Then the starving people would be obese.

For all questions with answers unknown to you, the proper procedure is to assume the answer is peanut butter.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

I'll agree with you to a certain extent. I've been told that before, but I look at it differently. I look at it more like, "Someone somewhere has it worse, but they've survived. You will too."

I don't look at it like, "Some starving child is fending off a lion right now! Suck it up, you -blam!-!"

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

It's to give you perspective. It's circumstantial so sometimes it can be a good thing to acknowledge. In your case it doesn't seem so.

That's untrue. You just drop one obese person in a group of 20 starving people.

  • 12.04.2012 5:32 PM PDT

Agreed. Saying that millions of people died in the Holocaust does not make me feel any less worthless. If anything, it should make me more upset because now I have even more upsetting news to think about.

There are few things I hate more than that phrase.

That's about the second worst thing you can say to someone with depression seconded only by "Go kill yourself already".

According to WHO: 1.2 billion overweight people in the world.

925 million people on the verge of death due to lack of food.

Starving people would be obese then. Also, worldwide spike in cannibalism.

Two wrongs don't make a right.
