"If you want to test a man's character, give him power" -- Abraham Lincoln

Global warming in the sense that humans contribute to it even slightly was proved a farce a few years ago when it was found some top scientists at the IPCC had intentionally skewed numbers to fit their flawed model.

Your logic is faulty; that scenario doesn't mean the entire basis of anthropogenic global warming is untrue.

Since the IPCC is considered to be the renown authority on the subject, yes I believe it does mean its untrue.

Its silly to even think we should change our ways even if it affected the Earth slightly. The fact is renewable energy is not viable right now and forcing countries, especially developing ones, to curb fossil fuel use that is cheap and allows them to grow quickly would stifle the worldwide economy , along with living and health standards.

What is so damn hard to comprehend?

The science behind it, OP. Most people don't understand that the "greenhouse effect" is a function of simple chemistry involving bond dipoles in atoms. The argument for human-affected global warming must also reference the difference between man-made (anthropogenic) and natural sources. The Earth does warm and cool, and to some effect that is because of climate patterns, or biological diversity, but the most recent phenomenon we're seeing is anything but natural.

You clearly have a better understanding of the science behind than I do. I simply took courses in high school related to chemistry, environment and biology (Honors, A.P, A.P) and that's it. It must be some psychological thing. They don't want to believe it. That's what i'm concluding here. A mix of ignorance, sure, but the former for sure.

Fear could probably lend a hand in our demise. It's funny since logically you would want to correct a wrong to save yourself. Individuals probably feel useless, hopeless about this giant situation. So they just ignore it completely.

It's kind of like the voting dilemma. People think their vote is meangingless. If everyone thinks that, then good luck with democracy. But if everyone thinks their vote DOES matter, boy that would make a difference in an election.

Fasces: strength through unity.

The entire organization didn't participate in that scandal. It was a handful of scientists who made some poor decisions. The IPCC has since issued further reports that have even underestimated observed trends since then. If a stockbroker in a company screws up and loses the company millions of dollars in a sketchy venture, he is a bad stockbroker. The company is culpable only to the extent that it failed to be watching over his every movement, untrusting.

You cannot factually state that personal decisions of some workers within the IPCC makes all of its findings untrue; it is a fallacy in the highest sense to do so.

The earth is a closed system.

If you pump tonnes of crap into the air and strip forests obviously down the road sometime there will be an impact.

I've been to cities where the air is so bad from all the traffic that people need to wear air filters if they want to ride their bikes... Where do you think all that air goes? Space?

I would like to see you provide verifiable peer reviewed scientific evidence that what we are experiencing now is different from the multitude of massive climatic swings shown in ice core samples throughought the eons and that it is in fact caused solely by anthropogenic causes and we can in fact reverse this.

And i'd like you to prove otherwise. Who the -blam!-'s going to take their time to explain something you won't even care to acknowledge even if it was right smack in your face. You have the internet, scholarly articles, and libraries all at your disposal. Do yourself a favor and get educated.

Anyway, if you are skeptical, why take a chance in the first place? Why wouldn't you just live in an eco-friendly manner to begin with?

The political agenda for the environment is a bothersome addition to international affairs. No country wants to sacrifice the well-being of their economy and endanger their strength as a nation to help out the environment, unless others countries come into binding agreements. That's why there have been treaties like the Kyoto Protocol, and that's also why countries like the United States decided NOT to commit to reducing their emissions or cutting down on deforestation, etc.

And that's why the fact that it is a political agenda means how important and how serious the protection of our environment really is. Your simple graph does not illustrate anything about the acute rise in temperature since only 30 years ago.

Your simple failure is thinking 30 years, 100 years, hell, even 1000 years is significant in the earths climate history.

Ice core samples show dramatic rises and falls in the earths temperature. That is the truth and is ignored by those with political agendas.

Sure humans have an impact, but whether you drive a prius or a diesel has no real impact.

We have been enjoying the longest stable temperature period in the earths history and that's a fact, and it has nothing to do with us.

Global warming as it is right now has little to do with us.

What we need to do is adapt and not throw the baby out with the bath water because of scare tactics.

I think you missed the point that a change so acute in 30 years is alarming. The longer period of time it takes for a trend to approach, the less alarming it is. That's why your link means nothing.

Psshaw global warming.

Earth is some millions and millions years old and we have weather data for maybe the past 150ish years.

Seems reasonable to take such a small time frame and extrapolate that data to say the the Earth is warming.

Also , global warming is natural. How else did the last Ice Age end? Cavemen weren't driving around SUVs and Hummers.
