Subject: Sexism in language

Let's look at the declensions of "him" and "her" in the English language.

Male
-Him
-His
-He

Female
-Her
-She

As you can see, males have one more declension than females do. Isn't this sexist? What should we do about this?

Hers?

That's just a form of "her". "His" is a word completely independent of "him".

There is actually sexism in the English language, OP, and this is not an example of it.

That doesn't matter. Point is, the male version has three declensions and the female version has two.

3>2
Male>female

What's wrong with it being a little bit inclined towards men? Its only fair to give men an advantage, given that women talk so much.

  • 12.04.2012 7:26 PM PDT

human.... hu-MAN... Oh my gosh our species name is sexist! we should all be called earthlings now.....

woman.....wo-MAN! Jeez! it just got worse, they shall now be called gyrocopter from now on.

Why don't we give females a word in lieu of "her's", then?

Though the morrow may be barren of promises, nothing shall forstall my return.

Isn't it also sexist to try and say man has more advantages in such an area where there are truly no true advantages to be found? Which basically means is an attack to make "man" feel bad to promote a sense of superiority over said "man"?

Sexism can work both ways, and it is pointless to make fuss over such trival issues. Thus I say we do nothing about this and focus on more important and slightly more pressing matters.

Not superiority; equality.
