Whats up with the mix-matched armor sets in Halo 4? One is olive drab metallic armor with a face mask, another is mostly white and appears to be made out of more fabric like material and the other one is the same thing as the white except for the fact that it is black? (ODST's Maybe)

Army, Navy, Marine? They could be all mismatched cause the ship crashed maybe? I think it could also be different groups within that military squad. Like Special Forces, Recon, ODST, and Marine Infantry.

But does the UNSC really need a strict uniform policy in the field anymore? I mean...either you're UNSC, Promethian, or Covenant. Either you're human or not. Yeah there are rebels, but they don't have a uniform, or a banner to wave over their collective heads. The taliban don't have a uniform and neither do the Insurrectinists (both aka terrorists).

"Moooooooo"
-Ghost cow

Probably because the Infinity crashed and a lot of people were killed so they had to mix n match.

Check my fileshare.

There are army, navy, marines, and air force on board the Infinity.

In squads, there are riflemen, radiomen, medics, etc.

The difference continues to appear in Spartan Ops and they are specifically described as just being marines. In this last chapter you clearly see some examples.

And my problem is what is up with all the white? Are the Covenant species blind to that color or something? Cause if they are not they are sticking out tremendously.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Maybe they are the uniforms for different groups of armed forces?
Maybe they are the only clothes some soldiers could find?

Infinity Is a Joint operation I believe so their will be many different people working together so you will have a many different uniforms

Wake me when the jews are gone.

Infinity is a mix N'match of navy, marines and air force, the only actual marine uniforms are the olive green one with the Helmet, the one with the Radio (also olive green) and the medic (white with red stripes) that Conan was using in the easter egg.

Yeah I don't understand why they're white. White armor doesn't really have a good track record in sci-fi... *cough* stormtroopers *cough cough*

only the medics have withe armor, and there are only white medic models in game that i know of, the UNSC must be racist

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

The Infinity is the flagship of the UNSC Fleet. I think it stands to reason that there are officers and non-officers of every major branch of the Military aboard.

Air Force - Pilots. maybe? (Granted we see no Hawks or Hornets, just Pelicans, and you could easily have Marine pilots)

Marines - Obviously infantry.

Army - Not every soldier is cut out to be a Marine, but they should still have combat experience with the Covenant/ Prometheans.

Navy - It's a ship. It's manned by Navy personnel.

Spartans seem to be their own division of the Military now. Kind of odd that ONI would relinquish command of the UNSC's most important program.

Marines and Spartans have tags seen through neural implants so there shouldn't be a problem identifying who's who.

This is a pretty good visual overview of USMC- errr...UNSCMC- battledress in Halo 4.

My personal theory is that the white armor plate seen on 'Infantry 3' is used by Navy personnel. The white helmets seen in cutscenes are very similar to vacuum-capable examples from Reach, and higher visibility/reflectivity would very likely be considered a safety advantage in an EVA environment. The Medic also uses white armor- remember that the USMC uses Navy corpsman, not organic Medics. This could very well be a nod to present-day Marine tradition.

The variations between the various Marine versions is most likely akin to the various subsets of equipment used by most armed forces. Just because two servicemen are in the same branch does NOT mean that they will be equipped in an identical manner. It appears to be separated into a lighter, more mobile armor kit( 'Officer' and 'Infantry 2'), and a heavier, frontline set ( 'Infantry 4' and 'Communications').

But a bigger question, why do officers always get hats?

"Hey guys, we need to design an armour set for the higher ranking people on the field, should we give them more protection?"

"Don't be stupid Phil, we should make their head completely vulnerable! Ooh I know! lets also give them headgear that actually designates they're an officer so that enemy snipers can see!"

You'd think with them all having visors, they could differentiate between who is who without needing to sacrifice protection.

So I guess the soldiers in totally black armor might be ODSTs...

Man the Medics would be easy as crap to single out.

They don't show the common cloth-tan variant though.

Also, pure black seems to be ONI security, as it's only seen in composer and the subtitles are explicitly "Security".
