because no air in space

Space crafts still fly in space. Air Force is relative to flight.

If you want to get technical, you don't fly in space, you drift. There's nothing to lift you up in space to fly.

Its obvious, the navy is far more capable of making sustained platforms for defense and offense, they have experience in it, while the airforce is either a support role, or long range offensive force.

There is no air in space. You can't "fly" in space.

They're a lot closer to ships than aircraft.

What?
Look at a naval ship. Look at a plane. Now look at a UNSC ship. It's obvious naval ships are closer.

Good point! I mean, the US navy only has boats, right?

Oh, wait...

UNSC Navy is spacecraft that is operated usually in space, outside of a planet's atmosphere. They use frigates as their offense and defense, but primarily defense

UNSC Air force is about space/aircraft in a planets atmosphere, like the Sabre Fighters, Pelicans, broad and longswords, vultures, etc. and are mostly offense and transport.

You got that backwards. Since the aircraft are bound to the planet they are stuck as defense while ships can freely move around space.

I guess you're right, I just see more defense from Frigates in the books and games.
Defending a planet? Fighters would be aggressive while ships stay back. Attacking a planet the ships would assume the attack role.

General of The Irish Punks

The United States Air Force is in charge of space, if we were to start flying in space with space ships it would fall under Air Force jurisdiction. If you watch the tv show stargate sg-1 they eventually get spaceships and the Air Force is in charge.

And not the Air Force? They fly, hence Air Force.

Implying the Navy doesn't fly aircraft as well...

Aircraft launched from Carriers are piloted by Navy pilots, not Airforce.

You're an idiot.
Flight is the process by which an object moves, through an atmosphere (especially the air) or beyond it (as in the case of spaceflight), by generating aerodynamic lift, propulsive thrust, aerostatically using buoyancy, or by ballistic movement, without direct support from any surface.

Don't have to be a jerk about it. Jeez. While yes, the definition of flight does include space, it doesn't relate in anyway to a ships size. Ships are traditionally large and bulky and are only used on the sea or in space. Aircraft are small and slim. They may be considered ships as well, but the size is probably why they are exclusive to AirForce. Hell, the fighters that UNSC spacecraft use for space combat may very well be apart of the AirForce.
