just by looking at their face?
Source!

Women can tell with some accuracy whether an unfamiliar male is faithful simply by looking at his face, but men seem to lack the same ability when checking out women, according to an Australian study published on Wednesday.
In the study, 34 men and 34 women were shown colour photographs of 189 Caucasian adult faces and asked to rate them for faithfulness.
The researchers compared their answers to the self-reported -blam!- histories of the 189 individuals and found that the women participants were better able to tell who was faithful and who was not.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

Could they tell how many were forever alones?

*shrugs*

I'm sure there's a study on something like it though.

So if they based the inference on whether or not men were more masculine, does that mean we can infer that manly looking men cheat more?

Really, there are a lot of variables at play. Masculine looking men probably have more relationships, and thus, more opportunity to cheat.

I mean, if they showed a woman a picture of the typical Floodian, they'd probably say he didn't cheat. And they'd be right - because the typical Floodian is a foreveraloner who has never had a relationship.

Crap. I didn't read the article, I was just agreeing that women can read that sort of thing better. As for masculinity being a strong indicator in general, well, there are plenty of willowy, effeminate sleazebags to contest that.

So how do you tell a cheating woman?

  • 12.05.2012 8:29 AM PDT

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

Seriously. I think they are confusing causation and correlation.

There is a way to tell them but I don't go around making assumptions about people.

Did you know global warming has caused the extinction of pirates? Researches show that as temperatures have increased over the past century, pirates, not liking the hot water, have been decreasing progressively.

OT: I think it's simply because men don't really care as much.

NON FACET NOBIS CALCITRARE VESTRUM PERNĒ¢UM

34 men & 34 women for a study is a very small data set, thus you cannot assume with a larger data set that the same would hold true.

Mindless babble having nothing to do with the topic at hand, obviously.

I'm going to invade your heart like a barn swallow high on milk chocolate and grandma love.

Fairness is only possible within the limited powers of man. Elsewhere, there is only chance.

Thus I refute thee.

Sounds like an evil ploy to spread paranoia and distrust.

RIP Logan ~B.B.

Makes sense, even though this seems like a rather small, preliminary study, I can easily buy into the premise. There are visual cues in the bodies of men and women that tell their reproductive capacity and hormone production. Those same visual cues likely give those men more opportunity to mate and the underlying hormone balance (likely higher than average testosterone production) that shapes those features would likely give them a greater desire to mate, so it seems rather obvious there would be a connection.
