34 men & 34 women for a study is a very small data set, thus you cannot assume with a larger data set that the same would hold true.

Perhaps you shouldn't have posted this in a forum full of guys.
What did you expect?
Mindless babble having nothing to do with the topic at hand, obviously.

Sorry to let you down, but all the posts yet have been on topic.

Without you two Bumps, it'd be a lot less interesting.

Now if they just re-ran this study asking about videogame cheating...

That's easy. At least it was back in Halo 3 days. I could tell a cheater by their forum posts with pretty high accuracy. Usually, a new user that was obviously juvenile and tried to draw inordinate amounts of attention to their general rank, while being entirely dismissive of anyone else was usually a doubles boosted 50. Far stronger correlation than the study in the OP, I'd venture to guess.

It's ok. Your thread is totally awesome and cool.

Uhh. So what do you think is the reason why guys can't distinguish that in girls?

Maybe the men selected just aren't as "observant" as the women selected?

There are a lot of factors that cause an issue with this study. None that I have the answers to.

Just thought it was an odd study. I mean... why?

The Internet is an empowerment tool that's agnostic; it doesn't care about race, gender, or age.

How do you even know it's a real study? How do you know someone didn't just make up those numbers... they do seem pretty random (not even multiples of 5).

It said men picked the more attractive females. If the base cause of cheating is an overactive sex drive, baseline testosterone levels could be a significant factor. Testosterone has been shown to increase sex drive in both males and females. So females with high testosterone could be the ones that cheat more often. It may also be that the more "manly" females with more testosterone were not the more attractive women. It could be that the same thing that makes men evolutionarily attractive is the very same thing that causes them to cheat, which is an easy connection to make. It may be the opposite for females. Just a guess.

Why a lot of things? At least this one's for science.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Just another one of those, "what can we do to prove an edge exists between sexes" tests. If they were serious about obtaining a more tangible result, they most likely would have used a larger control group.

Oh but we all know from the Reach forum's "I got banned for no reason" threads that no one on the Internet cheats at video games.

Target Designator doesn't count.

Women know how to spot cheaters because they cheat more than men. It takes one to know one. Women think they are entitled to cheat wherease men actually feel guilty about doing it.

If I don't believe in him...

why should he believe in me?

I agree that with you that there are some errors in the execution of the study (especially the number people in the control group)

As for why, i cannot really say this is either something women naturally have or that they have been conditioned to detect
idk

  • 12.05.2012 10:25 AM PDT

lol

Women probably guessed all the good looking guys were cheaters and the average to homely guys were faithful. Then the guys most likely assumed that all women were cheaters.

This is so dumb...

Women can tell with some accuracy whether an unfamiliar male is faithful simply by looking at his face,

Thoughts?

My sister had a friend that could tell that my sister's husband was faithful just by looking at his eyes. She said, and I quote, "Your husband has faithful eyes."

I feel that there is some truth in that statement.

I believe it actually.

Thought this was about game cheats, initially. LOL.

Also, bogus study is bogus.

Well according to the study..Attractiveness was not a factor in the women making the link. Men, on the other hand, seemed to have no clue. They tended to perceive attractive, feminine women to be unfaithful, when there was no evidence that they were, the scientists noted.

On the Left

Godshatter: I can go all the way with someone without being attracted to them.
CamCamm: How does that work?
Godshatter: I'm easily aroused by anything that moves. It's a curse.
Brain says 'No, that's ugly', body says 'ugly is fine with me'.

I was thinking it was game related!!

PS: I will not cheat.

  • 12.05.2012 10:35 AM PDT

So...

you can leave now.

Does anyone know the percents of cheating on average for males and females? If there is a large difference from males to females (although I assume there is not a huge one) that would be an important variable to take account for.

Did the study evaluate the same population of men as women where there was an equal amount of people who cheated in each selection?

Maybe it's wrong but I've always percieved some women as "too hot to be faithful". A girl can be so beautiful that she is hit-on day after day after day. Eventually, it seems one attempt has to work.
I think many guys think this way.
