Subject: PC gaming is so impersonal.

I gaze upon the stars and see the majesty that is the universe.

Don't get me wrong Steam is an incredible service and they are so much better with prices than any console service out there. Yet that doesn't stop the fact that its so impersonal. I'm the kind of person that much prefers a disc to a digital license. That's what PC gaming lacks in itself; discs. Everything is so downloadable these days that it makes me forget I even have games on my PC. There is no physicality, it's all virtual with no way to actually own a game short of buying it off the Internet somewhere else.

PC gaming feels like playing on a glorified iPod since its just playing a bunch of downloadable apps basically. The worse thing is you don't even own the game. Steam gives you a license practically forcing onto their rule (albeit a fair dictatorship). It's like there's nothing there. The only PC games I play are the ones that have a disc because I know something's there. Why is PC so caught up with the digital crap and leaving out anyone that actually wants to own a game.

Honestly that's probably the biggest thing a console has over PC's specifically the Steam service. There is no personality and no discs.

I've been playing Halo since 2002. My earliest memories include hiding at the shotgun window on Damnation and killing my dad with grenades while playing co-op on Pillar of Autumn.

OP is a jealous pleb. Stay mad console peasants. The Master Race gave you a chance and you didn't take it.

Pass the controller bro

There are discs, it's just that most people prefer Steam for it's simplicity. I'll admit I'm a disc guy, but nowadays I have slowly stopped caring. I just go with the best price.

Easier but not better. And certainly forgettable.

Honestly i gotta agree with him. There's just something about going to the store and buying a disc that feels much better.
Like how when i was younger i would love to buy booster packs for card games. i knew it would be smarter just to order the cards i needed online, but the feeling of opening up a new pack of cards just felt too great.

Also i'm the master race of loving pc and console gaming, get on mah level.

Very few unfortunately. I don't even care about price just the fact that I don't even remember I own the damn games or avoid them if I have downloaded them. :P

Cole

I think you have trust issues with downloaded games. I do prefer consoles though. I like the feel better.

On the plus side, no discs mean no wear and tear on your DVD drive. Playing straight off the HDD has its advantages.

When we're talking about games that are $5-$10 a pop, not having a disc doesn't bug me. However, for something like the C&C Ultimate Collection, I want a boxed copy!

Nobody cares about anyone else's opinion - be it mine, yours, or a cult of angry star wars nerds - when they are enjoying what they enjoy.

Zombine
Everyone cares about opinions, that's why we socialize on a forum with strangers.

I like discs because it gives you a more permanent storage medium for the content than an Internet-based service like Steam does.

If Valve goes out of business tomorrow, you'll still be able to play HL1 on disc, but you won't be able to access any of their Steam-based products.

Currently studying Computer Science & Software engineering. Hope to work on mobile devices of the future! When a certain game's credits roll, look out for my name! ;)

You will -blam!- bricks when you see what game it is! =)

Dont forget OP, your Xbox has to read data off the disc, and guess where it goes? well its placed into cache and RAM to be accessed quickly. All in all, a disc is just a VERY slow download. (of course when you shut down the power, all the data is discarded)

"I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights!"

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

- "Cross of Iron"

That OP makes no sense to me.

The games are in your steam library and you forget you have them?

Contrary to popular belief, friendship is not magic. Unless sex is involved.

$60 per disk isn't a dictatorship? Is going broke your idea of "personality"?

Honestly that's probably the biggest thing a console has over PC's specifically the Steam service. There is no personality and no discs.

...and console manufacturers are actively trying to get rid of that advantage.

Suggestion: Buy a game from Good Old Games if it's available, and burn it to a disc if it bothers you that much.

Don't really agree with your point, but PC gaming has never appealed to me. I don't care about mods or hyper-realistic graphics.

Life will always find a new way to ruin everything you know, enjoy the moments of peace to their fullest and prepare yourself for the lemons that are heading your way and you might just make it.

Lol. Better get used to that 'impersonal' gaming, bro, because eventually all gaming will be digital. Discs are already obsolete.

But its so easy to get games on PC. You just load up steam, and buy a game.
No driving to the store, asking for the game, being asked if you want scratch protection or subscribe to a magazine.
Though the download times can be a little long depending on your connection.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

Both gaming platforms have their pros and cons. I prefer console gaming mainly because I love playing split-screen or I prefer taking it easy on the couch when I game, but I can easily see why some people prefer PC over consoles.
