I mean seriously. I didn't know the UNSC had nano bot technology. Can't they just program their nano bots to duplicate themselves, and seek out covenant flesh to devour?

It's not that hard.

Let's say, hypothetically, that were possible.

... You don't think the fact that it would likely wipe out humanity too is a problem?

Rustled Jimmies

are you just making threads for the sake of making threads?

0/10

wouldn't recommend or read again

and do you realize how long it would take for the nano bots to "eat" away at a covenant ship? by the time the nano bots made a significant damage to the ship the crew would be gone and on another ship

Likely? How? If we have technology today for Area 51 that can detect the scent of a human vs. a rattle snake approaching, then I'm sure some 500+ years into the future they have technology that can distinguish between a sangheli warrior and a -blam!- sapien. It would only break down organic covies.

Remember those times when we all had something better to be doing, but didn't do it? Those were good times. Gooood times

Teh Flood 2.0!
Now with covie seeking functionality!

It's K. The Covenant use energy/plasma based weapons. We still use projectiles so we can kill them!

Just drop the shields with a MAC round, then hit it with a dozen ARCHER missiles with nanobot warheads, and watch the Covenant ships turn to slag.

Vae Victis!

Heck, we can go back even further to Fred Saberhagen's Berserker series.

Building any sort of automated weapon system and telling it "go kill all X" is a terrible idea that will bite you in the ass.

Yeah man. But why don't they just create a giant laser the diameter of the universe but it only kills covies?

Not that hard. Your idea was dumb and overcomplicated.

Because the Covenant use energy shields on just about everything they own, protecting them, while humanity has no shielding whatsoever (with the exception of Spartans).

Actually, its not that dumb. Science fiction writers have been writing about that for a while now, and the idea is starting to make some sense. Obviously control is the biggest problem, but a society that figured out FTL will likely have found out how to keep their own nano-bots from eating them.

This, and the fact that nanbots are only used for construction and adaptation, such as the MJOLNIOR.

Per Audacia Ad Astra

We should have manipulated the Flood instead of wiping them out.

That would already kill the covenant ship even without the nano bot technology.

The problem was getting the MACs/Archer missiles out in time (and in the case of the archer missiles, covenant would shoot at them and barely any would make contact)

A MAC round doesn't necessarily kill a ship. Remember, from a Halcyon class it takes 2 to three to kill. But one can drop shield.

Now, an ARCHER does damage, but not nearly enough. A nano-warhead, only one warhead filled with gobblers would be needed to get a kill shot. It may take a bit, but every hit is a kill.

They have nano-tech, but I dont think they can use it as a weapon. Nothing else really.

Also NOVA bombs > Nano weapons.

Yeah that's what I meant, you'd have to take the shields down with a MAC then you can Archer missile/MAC it to death. The nanobots would have to wait until the shields were down so it would take about the same time (faster waiting for the MAC to charge again at best).

Unless the nano bots could get through the shields, then I get what you are saying. If one missile getting through would just knock the whole ship out due to the nano bots then it definitely take a lot less time.
