Subject: Why is everyone saying how grest TES morrowind is now?

Honestly I could not get into the game... mainly due to the combat. I would swing at something 1 foot ahead of me and it won't register the hit.

When oblivion came out everyone was saying.how it was lightvyears ahead of morrowind but now that skyrim been out for a while people are saying how great morrowind was..

Was it really that good?

  • 12.05.2012 2:08 PM PDT

Meh. I'm not that into Morrowind either. Oblivion? Much better methinks.

I much prefer Oblivion, to both Morrowind and Skyrim.

  • 12.05.2012 2:13 PM PDT

It's because unlike Oblivion and Skyrim Morrowind had an interesting story. True, it was marred by painful graphics, combat, and animation but again, it was the story and atmosphere that made it so well loved.

Real account.

If you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, a is 1, b is 2, etc., and you take all of the values of the word "MATH", and add them, you get 42. So math is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

I've said no such thing.

This. I don't feel game devs realise how important an atmosphere is to a game they are making.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

People have said that Morrowind was the best for years now. It's certainly not a new trend.

I haven't played it myself though, so I can't render judgement.

It was an RPG, not the actiony-crap that Skyrim. You're going to miss in combat sometimes. Alot of people forget that sometimes. As far as graphics and animation goes, it was released in 2002.

I really think it's better than the past 2 installments because out of those 3, it sticks to the open world format the best. Wanna go check out that distant mountain? Good, better prep for a long walk, because you ain't fast-traveling there and you're probably going to get bum-pummeled by cliff racers 3 seconds into your journey.

Besides, any Elder Scrolls game without a pair of Travel-Stained Pants is doin' it wrong.

agreed, although i could not get into morrowind becuase i bought it last year and its game mechanics have not aged well, i could still feel the atmosphere in a mystifying way.

skyrim was all like LOLOLOL DRAGONS AND VIKINGS LOLOLOL

oblivion still has some of that mystery to it.

I don't PC game.

As for your earlier post, it hasn't aged well, but the GotY edition of the game had some tweaks to it, such as including enemy health bars so you could see when you're hitting them. However, for it's time, the game was amazing. I wasted so many days back in 03-04 just dicking around the wilderness scouring caves and mines. Morrowind had a sense of immersion I didn't get out of Oblivion or Skyrim.

"Now?"

People have been saying how good Morrowind is since before Oblivion came out.

I enjoy Morrowind and Skyrim way more than Oblivion. Oblivion sacrificed a lot of the things I enjoyed in Morrowind and it still looks ugly as sin. I give it a pass though, since games have come a long way but it doesn't mean it's any more enjoyable to me. Skyrim has the same sacrifices but it gives me a good, fluid UI and it looks damn good.

They should've never taken out unarmored and hand to hand, though. :(

German is such a beautiful language.

  • 12.05.2012 2:45 PM PDT

The animations and action was too bad though

  • 12.05.2012 2:59 PM PDT

Morrowind and Oblivion had better stories than Skyrim. However, Oblivion blew Morrowind out of the water when it came to combat. I personally liked Oblivion better, as i could not get into Morrowind for the same reasons. I do not deny that Morrowind is one of the, if not the, best TES games.

  • 12.05.2012 3:04 PM PDT

It's called nostalgia.

  • 12.05.2012 3:07 PM PDT

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

Hipster's gonna hip: when a new series entry is received, hipsters berate the developers for attempting to expand their series, and claim that its predecessor was superior, sometimes going back to the very first entry. Whilst Morrowind wasn't the first TES, it was the first on console, and is therefore likely to have been the first for a lot of fans.

Recon Number 54 -
If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

Maybe because a Skyrim DLC with parts of morrowind was just released?

Sure to get the nostalgia juices flowing.

What house has a rocket pod, has legs, and has a long narrow barrel that probably shoots something powerful?

Sounds like you're describing the lower half of my body, actually.

I think Skyrim got it right this time with the atmosphere instead of Oblivion. Oblivion felt like any other midevil RPG with the atmosphere but Skyrim feels more like an outlandish world to me. Too bad the only good story was the DB in Skyrim. MQ was the same cliche thing since the beginning of TES.
