We keep threatening action against Iran if they keep trying to make nuclear weapons yet we won't act against Assad for building chemical weapons? Why the hell must we wait for them to use them?

Because the public is not exactly keen on having another war right now.

Y'know, I can understand why people don't like the idea of another war, but the way I see it, it's either act or sit back and watch a genocide happen then what isn't our problem today becomes our problem tomorrow.

Also, WTF are NATO and the UN doing? aren't previous actions of Assad alone enough to warrant action?

I am assuming direct control.

I was kinda of hoping that when I graduate in a few years I won't be sent to the middle east. Might as well make sure I go aviation that way I can fly some birds around.

The US IS the UN.

The UN isn't too excited to get bogged down again when most of the big players just pulled out of the Middle East and are facing massive economic problems at home.
