Subject: Could America successfully invade/siege China?

The Universe demands to be noticed, to be seen, and dutifully noted.

What use all those incredible firework dimensions if no eye fixes and reflects, no brain takes notes, no heart moves with passion at the display?

NASA answers the silent cry of the Cosmos for recognition.

NASA is the witness and we fellow witnesses to the endless deeps.

MAD - if America were to utterly destroy their coastal cities - rather than surrender, the Chinese government would almost certainly nuke the United States and it's allies in retaliation - the United States can't ferret out every launch site in China - particularly those ones in the mainland.

No. Not successfully.

  • 12.05.2012 10:12 PM PDT

With some good ol' fashion blitzkrieg, maybe.

  • 12.05.2012 10:36 PM PDT

Yup.

And Norway could invade the US.

I gaze upon the stars and see the majesty that is the universe.

EGO mos bulla astrum.

Yes to both. However the Invasion would likely be unsuccessful due to guerrilla attacks. However, who knows how loyal the Chinese are to their Commie government.

A siege on the other hand would be easy. We'd tear through their lack of a navy and simply continue shelling them from the sea and air and at the very least accomplish razing their shoreline and port cities. Although it would be an incredible waste of resources and would only succeed in making eastern China a bombed out wasteland.

I doubt it, even if the US send...say 1 million troops, they would be outnumbered 1 to 1000 with the local population AKA It'd end up in a logistic nightmare. And given the deep roots of Chinese nationalism, they'd certainly not give up that easily.

See "Vietnam" for more information.

Air superiority and naval superiority does a lot, especially with today's technology. I think you're forgetting that the US has thousands of combat ready jets and hundreds of helicopters ready for combat.(that's a lower estimate too, just go look at globalfirepower).

Yes, China's current active duty military service men number at 2,285,000. This is slightly above us. The problem comes into play that China has the ability to call into service 385,821,101 males and 363,789,674 females. However these individuals have not been trained. The total number of trained troops China has including active duty and reserves is 3,085,000. The United States does have the military capability and strength to invade china. But in order to win we would have to change our perspective and full on invade.

It would also have to be some Red Dawn type -blam!-. They couldn't know about it or we will be -blam!-.

Different Perspective

Yes, but not worth it.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

I doubt it. I hope we will never find out.

We won't witness it. From what I heard, debt is automatically void right when you enter into a war with another country, if that was the case China would be crushed economically after losing the debt we owe them and then having to pay for the war (even if they did win, somehow).

Octavia is best pony.

Of course not. There is no way we can compete with this level of military technology.

Gather around the campfire, once it goes out, it's out for good.

No.

Any major military invasion of another country in these times never works.

Cole

We could probably take down a lot of their defenses but the country is too damn big and has too many people to hold it for long. Also we would be condemned by the world. :D

  • 12.06.2012 6:03 AM PDT

No, and I assume the rest of the world wouldn't like to have their economy -blam!- up.
