I've read a lot of theories, and I've been reading since before I got an account, but this is really starting to bug me.

I dont like the books.
The books do not correspond with the game
There will be no Colonel Ackerson or Dr. Hasley or the other Spartans in the game

And here is my explanation-

Take for instance, the average gamer, he plays Halo, and just picked up a copy of Halo 3

Because the minority of the people who play Halo have read the books, he is in the majority and has not read them.
He starts playing campaign, only to have half of the whole thing being mostly missions that take place in the past, before the first Halo game, and they explain what the connections are between Dr. Hasley, CP Mendez, Dr.Hasley, and the other spartans,

the gamer goes, " what?? this is not cool, Bungie just wasted half a game explaining something i dont get?!?!?"

you guys don't realize, and it makes me laugh, that Bungie will not do this
they will make a game that the MAJORITY will like,

seriously, explaining half the plot in the final chapter of the game!!!!???? its like
i dont know, reading the first 6 Harry Potter books, and in the 7th
Harry being told

"hey man, um..., yea, you see, there's this guy... you see, yea, he um, kinda wants to kill you... yea, his names Lord Voldemort..., yea, sorry dude, you gotta like..., um, have a showdown with him.., sorry dude"

This just doesnt make sense!!! Not for the game at least!!

I think that most of these theories are really good! but only for the book at least!!

I think that there might be a small, minute chance, most likely not, that there will be MAYBE a spartan, maybe two, but only if they remain unnamed. the Master Chief only knows them as fellow Spartans, but i dont think so,

all in all, you guys come up with some great stuff dont get me wrong, but his just doesnt fit in the game, have you honestly ever seen another work of fiction do this? explain half a plot in the final chapter? and if so, was it any good?

please comment but dont flame, unless the guy is a real retard, like Wuyie, then go ahead.

Makes sense. I don't have any interest in reading the books, and like you said, I don't think that the majority has read them either. So why would Bungie put something that only a minority would understand in Halo 3?

Good point dude.

I agree. The books were okay, but I don't like to think of them as part of the games. The games should stand alone as their own story.

I saw those posts from MLG chewawa, they were good ideas, but I seriously ripped out my hair when he put what they thought the storyline should be, just leave the storyline to Bungie.

One thing i think would be cool is that the beginning, what the first thing you see when you start the campaign, Bungie is sticking to the Star Wars beginning, and by that I mean it always starts with a ship, or close to one, I think it should start out simply with the Forerunner ship, the first mission being the Master Chief, but thats it.

well hate to rain on your little parade but. ireally jst want to disagree with you all. i think you acually have a valid point. but alot of people read the books. if they make halo 3 relating to the books but mostly relating to halo CE and halo2 then we'll have no problems.

I guess I'm just guessing, but Thing, if you really think about it, not everyone has read the books. Halo is not strictly America only, think about Europe for instance, they might have the books there but really, its not a majority that has read the books, Ive only seen about 300 different people on here [ as in forums ] and I'm betting that thats a 20th of the people who have or whatever, i bet my statistics are wrong, but seriously, its not a majority.

  • 07.03.2006 8:59 PM PDT

sure, the game may not explain everything, but the book about it will. and thats all the book lovers like me want.

Yes Jmh, you have the picture, let the book lovers read the book, and leave the game alone about the books plot, I actually like the books, but not in the confusion, they just explain a to complicated facet of the Halo universe to fit in the game. and I'm suprised that no one else has argued with me.

read the books... they go into the game without question

anyone who thinks they are sperate probably has no concern for the story. the game is as much story as it is gameplay and to disregard the books as canon is stupid. anything bungie agrees to (whether it be toys, books and movies) all count as canon in my opinion.

i completely agree, but we all know that the game will not give us all that we want.

but to kenny: the books are part of the story.

i dont think halo 3 will bring elements from the books into it but they shouldnt go against them either.

forget the compliment jmh, you guys just dont get it do you. the books do fit into the game, i never said they didnt, but do you realize if you really had any concern for the story line that they take the plot into a completely different direction? the books correspond on most points, but Bungie would seriously have to take a whole other game to explain what the previousd games have not!!! do you want that?? In a TRILOGY.

Exactly my point Jmh, they would not make another game to explain this. Which therefore means they will not make another game to explain this. and my b.net name is

So therefore, for Bungie to take the plot in the direction of the books, that would involve another game! so for you to suggest that they take the game in the direction of the book would neccesitate in another game. it just doesnt make sense for Bungie to introduce half a plot in the final chapter of a game.

Jmh man, what the crap, you realize youre losing the argument and you run? Classic.
And my point was that they would not take the game in the direction of the books, I said the same thing twice because you dont get it.

  • 07.03.2006 9:28 PM PDT

right. because the books have nothing to do with the game.
