ok so what hints is the didact giving us...is master chief gonna turn evil...i don't get the significance of the ending.

Note: I understand the Didact believes that Forerunners should keep the Mantel and Humans are a threat and taking all their technology, but there must be more to it.

Incomprehensible gibberish.

Isn't it showing how the chief is undergoing some kind of change due to the librarian's immortal-to-deathrays thingy?

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

I think we can only guess. It'll probably become clear what happens in terms of the Didact in the next game.

I didn't find the epilogue interesting, save for Chief's last few scenes.

I'm too tired but all I can say is to read the forerunner saga.
The Didact's monologue was a speech he made before he was put under arrest and was put in his Cryptum.

The Chief will most likely reclaim the responsibility of the Mantle for humanity.

What, after the Human-Forerunner war? No.

Though, I'm not exactly sure what the Mantle is.

I believe that the Didact is either speaking to the forerunner court back in the human-forerunner war, speaking to other forerunners in present times or speaking to the last precursor either in present or past times.

In this hour of victory, We taste only defeat. I ask why.
We are Forerunners, guardians of all that exists.
The roots of the Galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations, has saturated the soil.
Our strength is a luminous sun, towards which all intelligence blossoms...
And the impervious shelter beneath which it has prospered.
I stand before you.
Accused of the sin of assuring Forerunner ascendancy...
Of attempting to save us from this fate where we are forced to... Recede...
Humanity stands as the greatest threat in the galaxy.
Refusing to eradicate them is a fool's gambit.
We squander eons in the darkness...
...While they seize our triumphs for their own.
The Mantle of Responsibility for all things belongs to Forerunners alone!
Think of my acts as you will.
But do not doubt the reality.
The reclamation... has already begun.
And we are hopeless to stop it.

Mreh.

You mean the Didact's voice over? I think that he was just stating his case at a trial for his crimes against Humanity or something.

I have to say, this was one of the most epic parts of the campaign.

This is what i'm saying, he ws found guilty, then he was put into his Cryptum, then Bornsteller found it and activated his Cryptum.

There's no way this is before he goes into his Cryptum.

It doesn't sound like this is before he went into his Cryptum.
He was saying that before the court to make it sound like his actions were justified.

Yeah, he's meaning that the Forerunner's have stood in the background to merely shepherd life in the galaxy, and humanity is starting to rise to take their place.

Although now that I think of it in Spartan Ops they've mentioned that the engines of the Infinity are Forerunner, and they've started cannibalizing other Forerunner tech. Considering the Didact fell into a slipspace anomaly that was powering his death ray I guess he could still be alive, out chillin' with Jorge.

Also, if you guys listened to the terminals, the Didact's experiments made him invulnerable to the weapon. So he could be alive.
