I think it's a bit of an overkill, a few months should do them in.
I think it should be done away with for the following reasons.
1. people can change
2. Forever is too long
3. Stops Alts from being created
What's your opinion on the matter?

Sounds like you want some unwanted people to come back and make more chaos? No thanks.

BJ isn't that bad.

Bye.

Permabans should be the standard response to any misbehavior.

Perma bans (correct me if I'm wrong) are usually reserved for the scum of the earth that do messed up things like spam meat spins.

I've heard of people getting perma banned for religious discussion.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Perm bans need to be more prevalent. Like 3 strikes in one year and your out.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.” – Psalms 46:1-3

1. If someone receives a permanent ban due to the excessive amounts of bans they've received in the past, they have been given enough opportunities to change.

2. They knew the risks.

3. The amount of times I've given out 3 or 7 day bans only to get a PM saying, "unban me or I'll get on my alt" or something similar says otherwise.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I think you guys are pretty lenient about bans/warnings.

I only with though that moderation history disappeared after like 18 months or something so that if people are trying hard but make a mistake, they don't get severely punished for it.

Like if a guy was banned 20 times then didn't get banned for over a year, he shouldn't be banned for a month or a large amount of time because of his past, he is trying to change.

Yeah Skenny. I generally take into account how long it's been since someone's last ban.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

If they feel they have changed there are means to communicate with the moderators in order to appeal. I think the perma-ban should stay.

Trussingdoor is pretty kewl. He fires lasers and doesn't afraid of anything.

No, I think it's fair and should be kept.

I got a permaban. Know what I did? Appealed it. I can only think of one user who has been permabanned and so far failed all of her attempts to appeal, and given the circumstances I understand the mods' reasoning, if I don't agree with it. If you feel like a punishment is excessive, just politely say so (And yes, politely. Wouldn't want to end up on the Whambulance.)

Yes, permabans can be easily bypassed with alts. Anything but an IP ban from bnet can, really. But that's not really a reason to do away with it. Now, the severity of a perma can vary from user to user- someone who isn't involved in any Groups will probably feel like they have been thrown out of Bnet, whereas someone active in a big group will be slightly less affected.

But overall, I think it's good that the moderators have it. Do they use it on the wrong people and hold it away from the right people sometimes? Yes, and IMO more often than is really ok. Should the perma be removed because of this? No.

If any ban changes need to be made, it's the addition of bans of less than 3 days. Maybe a one or two day ban for minor flaming, just enough time to cool down, right? ;)

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

You can always appeal a perma-ban, so they're fine.
