Personally, I am mixed. I have to agree that the campaign is hands-down the best that Call of Duty has to offer, but after getting all of my challenges and story branch achievements, I can't bear to touch it again for a while, and this is because the cinematic aspect is still stealing the show. In fairness, that's what a campaign ought to be, but it made getting the challenges a royal pain the ass, since you can't get them in one swoop, and you have to finish the level for them to register.
I find that the multiplayer has a lot of great changes, and while nothing is innovative, it definitely sets itself apart from all of the other CoD games in positive ways. The pacing is like that of IW games, but unfortunately, the balance is also wonky like that of an IW game. I definitely prefer the multiplayer in the first Black Ops, but this wasn't a terrible effort, and the change is appreciated. If some of the weapons were tweaked, spawns fixed (come on, I'm spawning right in front of people on large maps), and lag comp be removed, this could be an amazing multiplayer experience by CoD standards.
And last, but certainly not least, I'll get to Zombies. Honestly, TranZit is just not what I thought it would be. It has awesome features such as the bank and fridge, but the map itself just isn't as interesting to me as previous Zombies maps such as Kino, Moon, Der Riese, etc. I find that there a lot of dry spells, because I often want to keep a zombie alive while I get to a certain area of the map, and if you're waiting on the bus, that can be a while. I dislike the mystery box selections, and while there are a few standouts, most of the guns just feel weak. That may be a reminder that you're gambling by hitting the box, but given that it's an important part of Zombies, I'd like to have a good chance to get a gun that doesn't shoot gummy bears. Before the release of the game, I was under the illusion that the items you build would be neat, but they're just in the same approximate areas every time and the assembly is more of a hassle than an interesting addition to the gameplay as a result. I might sound too nit-picky, but these things just make me want to play the Black Ops Zombies maps nearly every time I play TranZit, and the survival mode is without substance. I keep playing, because I want to feel like maybe I just need to give it time and develop an appreciation for it, but it just never happens. Here's to hoping DLC can give me another amazing Zombies experience, because this one was just okay to me. The game as a whole is pretty good, and while I seem very critical about it, I applaud Treyarch for breathing a bit of new life into a stale franchise.
