"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

Probably and good. We don't need a bland bare bones Halo game for a good 10 more years. After the piece of crap that was Halo 3's matchmaking I think it can stay dead for a while. Then I'd be content in its return.
Although in reality creating an equal starts gametype is incredibly easy in custom games if it really bothers everyone so much.
Accessibility is more important than competition. I can play Monopoly for hours and make it an incredibly competitive experience where there is skill involved. In the end however it is simply a game and skill means nothing and should mean nothing unless you're making it mean something.
That's one of the many flaws of the previous Halos. They force fed an environment detrimental to accessibility which is why the games died when Call of Duty came into play. Halo was only played so much because of its custom games and its monopoly on the industry. And a proper true skill system which I admit has not been in the games much since.
True skill is the only thing I'd care to come back.I really am not understanding your argument here. You thought Halo 3's Matchmaking was a "piece of crap" although you'd like to see TruSkill return? Yet, you question the validity of skill when you claim it means nothing, but still say a proper true skill system is needed?
I still have no idea how the game is not accessible but whatever
I concur; I don't understand the point you're trying to make here. Halo is far from "inaccessible". If games that have a skill gap are inaccessible, then what's even the point of trying to get better? Or win, for that matter? The truth is, Halo 2 and 3 were fun for both competitive players and social players. I really enjoyed both ends of the spectrum. Just because skill doesn't matter to you doesn't mean that it's irrelevant to everyone who plays the game.
Of course, I respect your views regarding competition; everyone enjoys different facets of games. And yet, you say you want Trueskill to come back, even though you think skill shouldn't matter at all? Then you already have what you want, since there's an invisible system in H4 to pair the matches fairly.
What I mean by classic Halo is the environment in which everything was fair and level, and more than that, Halo didn't simply take ideas used by other games. Halo felt much more unique to me before it started having custom loadouts, killcams, killstreaks, constant sprinting, AAs, instant respawn, a progression system instead of a ranking system, and so forth. They don't feel unique or fresh to me at all, so I tire of the game quickly. That wasn't a problem with Halo 1, 2 or 3.
