And if you think it can't be defined, what word would you rather use in it's place? I honestly don't get what you're trying to do.Trying to show you that progress is a human notion that has no real world living basis. Unless you want to prescribe the definition to abide by any form of motion, thus I would be making progress in this thread no matter your conclusion being it negative or a positive one.
You seem stuck on the idea that I'm trying to corrupt your opinion, that is not the case. I want your opinion so debate ensues upon what progress for our species really means. Also, if any progress can be labeled Bad or Good what would it look like applied.
I bring up the case of CERN claiming that its projects and ambition of unraveling the universe could potentially create disaster in the form of a Black Hole. Extreme nonetheless, but remember, they continue their work in the name of Progress
or perhaps dropping an atomic bomb to see what it can really do is a twisted form of progress. The political incentive was there. Lets make sure Stalin has no word in post Japan treaties and lets make sure he doesn't split the nation up like East and West Berlin. Recall if you will the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, that concludes the intentions of the Soviets yearning to secure power by whatever means, even if it meant signing a deal with someone that would later invade their country and be knocking on the doors of Moscow. Whew, Good thing Hitler would rather send his political prisoners to concentration camps via train, rather rearming purged troops in Lenin/Stalingrad. The idea of progress was at the center of most of these decisions.
I guess that makes sense. Alright so progress is subjective. But still, to the individual, progress is a pretty concrete word and doesn't have much subjectivity to it since we all define for ourselves what is progress.
I guess it's just that I don't really care about the definition of words that much. I don't see the point in arguing over such a petty thing, but whatever. Your point makes sense.
