We as mythics and dedicated members should be the best example for the newcomers and embrace them and show them how wonderful this community is.

I fail to see how making Freshmeat leave before they get the chance to ruin these forums is a horrible idea.

And I swear, if you give me that character one more time, I'm gonna banish you to The Shadow Realm.

LOL you're mad about a character in a post. Anyway, this would just discourage people from posting or visiting the site altogether. It's still a terrible idea.

I am never late,Nor am I early; I arrive precisely when I mean to.

That now the point of this site. Bungie encourages people to post not make it harder.

How would you feel if this was your first day and you couldn't post because your new or when you post and maybe make a mistake no one helps you to learn?

  • 12.06.2012 8:59 PM PDT

Key

So you don't want the Bungie.net population to rise at all? You're going to be that guy who discourages an influx of new members from Destiny? Did you follow all the rules when you joined? Did you read all the rules? Clearly not as you're not Mythic or Exalted.

Don't be a dick, please. Grow up and deal with new members.

I frequent a Disney gaming site (run by the community, not by Disney) that has a probation period. I still actively post within the site. Also, I would try my best not to make a mistake since I would read the forum rules first and lurk first first. That's the problem with new members. They don't lurk at all. They just post whatever comes to their mind without thinking. It drives me crazy cause then they act confused when the forum goers don't act the way the expected.

I understand man, I do..

So what can you do?
Encourage them to get to know the forum and to read the rules.
you don't have to help anybody any further I just encourage you to try, but no one will force you too

You have to remember this is run Bungie and they do things the way they feel is best.

Also remember the new members are excited and its something new, and we can't change that or expect them to take time to get to know the site first. We can hope they will, but if not we help anyway we can.

Sure I want it to rise, but not if they're going to come in with nothing worth while to offer. I don't hate new members, I hate new members that don't listen to reason. I hate new members that don't learn from their mistakes. Sorry, but one bad apple can spoil the tree. By the way, I don't need someone who is in the exact same level as me to lecture me on how I post.

I will deal with new members. It's a fact of life on these forums that they're going to come with nothing to stop them. I tolerate new members, which is the bare minimum the rules ask of me to do, but I will never accept them as long as they stay ignorant on how to behave.

When I grow up I want to be bitter and spiteful.

"i liked the reality where everything was on fire better"
-legato on remedial chaos theory

I believe it is detrimental to a new user's experience for them to know of and post within the rules.

  • 12.06.2012 9:09 PM PDT

If they listen then I'm more then willing to help out, if they show that they don't want to listen, I refuse to give them the time of day.

Thats awesome and and if they don't listen, like you said just tolerate them. Thats something we should all do and be asked to do. if thats what you can do then thats great.

I understand I won't change your mind just want to give a different side of things and something to think about every time a new user post.

Does that mean we have to treat them like humans? Bummer.

Only way to do that is to act on the mains like we do on the Mythic Members group.

This is bad logic that is usually used by bigots and other willfully ignorant types. It doesn't make you look good when you use it.

It makes you look exactly like the type of person you're talking about, actually.

Just a reminder for everyone.

Please everyone remember this thread is here to help people get ready for the exciting times ahead.. In no way do I want this to be a place to argue about something and prove someone wrong. If you can discuss it in a fair way Please do so.

Every time I see someone use that underlined word I die a little on the inside cause it makes them look like a hypocrite. Everyone is a Bigot by it's definition, but discussion of vocabulary is neither here nor there.

As I said earlier, I don't hate new members, I hate new members that refuse to learn. You know, the ones that post flame bait on The Flood, and when told that's bad they act like it the messenger is crazy.

Saying "everyone is a bigot" is a very flimsy and poorly thought out excuse for bigotry.

I wasn't saying that you're a bigot. I was saying that the idea that one person's actions reflect on anyone but that person only because they are in the same group is bad logic.

The people you're talking about are trolls, and they post flamebait to get reactions. They know it's wrong, they just don't care.

  • 12.06.2012 9:37 PM PDT

So it's completely normal that these trolls all have a join date of July/August of this year, and when confronted with their action, they genuinely act like they didn't know? Seems a little far fetched, especially when the Mods don't permaban over those threads (doesn't help that The Flood never reports them either).

You gotta remember its the flood and the mods do the best with what they have.

If they do something wrong and they don't listen I would just say move on and if you feel you should report then do so. Don't keep hitting a wall if they wanna listen they will... if they wanna be banned or warned then they won't.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

We have to make sure we are on our best behavior for the newcomers. They are the future of Bungie.net and our community. We have an opportunity to be the best community ever.
